I am working with a 15 year old girl who has lupus disease. I recently found out that she has periodic water retention. Her belly is swollen as well. Is there anyything you can suggest that would benefit her. She is very open to yoga and relaxation techniques.

The main suggestion is a regular yoga practice and clean up her diet as best as possibel to organic health foods. For water retention doing gentle seated twists for a long period up to 1 minute per side can provdie relief. This needs to be gradaully increased not immediately. Intercostal breathing as described in my book needs to be done in the pose to provide the benefit i am describing. A general yoga proactice incorporating all parts of practice - breathing, meditation, relaxation, spirtiual reading, developing positive attitude - can be of great help.
