Mastering the spirit

Hey guys,

I’m currently an undergraduate in college right now, and I have lots of questions that I’m hoping you can answer. Let me give you a bit of background info:

I used to enjoy watching Japanese anime shows (Naruto, One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin), and that’s how I learned about chakra, ki, and spirit energy. I always thought this was just TV show stuff, but after doing some research today, I realized that it’s very much real.

Steve Jobs was noted for having a “reality distortion field” where people would literally succumb in his presence, and I’ve heard of people having an “overwhelming or tremendous spirit” - people that you meet and you just know that these are tremendous people.

I believe we all sense that spirit energy, but when people exert it particularly strongly, then it’s much easier to sense. Thus, we are overwhelmed by people of great spirit.

My goal is to develop that overwhelming spirit. When I meet someone, I want them to feel that there is a tremendous force in front of them. Most importantly, I want to master by spirit energy. I want to have far more purpose in my actions, have greater peace, and generally be able to understand the spirit of others’ as well.

So I think what I need to do is learn how to open and master my charkas. One of my friends did a Vipassana course and he feels like he does things with far more purpose now (people tell him this), and I want to get at that level.

My question is: how do I go about doing this? I know very little about the charkas, or about spirit energy in general. I don’t have any classes nearby, but I will make the time to learn on my one. How long will this take? Am I even looking for the right thing? How should I go about practicing?

Thanks for your time.

just a long way of research and practice…years…decades…

My goal is to develop that overwhelming spirit. When I meet someone, I want them to feel that there is a tremendous force in front of them.

Why? What do you hope to gain from this?

I want to have far more purpose in my actions…One of my friends did a Vipassana course and he feels like he does things with far more purpose now (people tell him this), and I want to get at that level.

What’s going on here? I think you need to examine your motivations. If your purpose is just to elevate your ego or compete with you friends, chances are you won’t succeed.

If you want for people to feel an overwhelming spirit in your presence, you have to actually have that spirit. If you want to have more purpose in your actions, your actions have to actually be the result of some purpose. So you have to start by defining your purpose, something that you want to accomplish, not for your own self-aggrandizement, but for the greater good. The depth of your spirit will be determined by the purposes you choose, and the focus, intensity, and determination with which you pursue them.

I agree with Asuri.

And would add that I have had a friend tell me about an amazing person, brilliant, amazing spirit and a tremendous presence etc…and I felt a big fat zero from that person…
the reverse has also happened…

I agree with Asuri. This sounds like it is coming from your ego. What do you hope to gain with this “spirit”? What is the purpose?

You guys know the concept of upaya … let him have his tremendous force.

I only say to the original poster, that you do not master the spirit, the spirit masters you.

Very true. What’s the purpose?

Eventually, you may hear about siddhis (spiritual powers) in Yoga. They are a fall-out of rigorous Yoga practice and not magical wands to play around with. Ironically, by the time one gets them the process brings about fundamental changes in one’s desires to ensure that the powers are used only in furthering Yoga.

However, simply a charismatic personality may not always be a spiritual achievement. Like the physical features, we are endowed with astral and causal ones at birth as a past legacy. Chakras belong to these subtle bodies which interpenetrate the physical and are not ‘contained’ inside as generally thought. More active and energized they are, more projected their reach is. In the presence of such people, this energy touches that of others to create a ‘feeling’ of getting drawn. When not consciously sustained, the energy depletes over time.

If your heart is pure, full with good intention and other positive qualities, you will eventually get everything that you want.
