Men's Yoga Attire

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some yoga shorts and tank top (muscle shirt). Visited lulu lemon but noticed all the shorts do not have an inner liner/net. Is the net necessary? I’m thinking if I’m doing leg lifts some people may see whats under my shorts, or am I just paranoid. Do you guys wear underwear under your shorts? Perhaps I’m just getting paranoid.

I think underpants under the shorts is a good idea.
When trying on shorts, do a few yoga asanas and look at yourself in the mirror…check that you can move easily and comfortably without having to fuss with adjust your clothing and that nothing is escaping…

i generally wear tracksuit bottoms. shorts to me are a bit limiting, especially when stretching.

Good idea also, though im concerned cotton pants would be too warm. What material are they made of? Looking to practice some hot yoga in the winter. Also do you wear underwear underneath?

Was hopeing I can get away without underpands, :). Just extra stuff one has to carry around, btw planning to do hot yoga in the winter if that changes things?

Try some close fitting stretchy shorts…like cycling shorts without the padding. These will not be too hot and will move with you as well as keeping everything neatly tucked out of sight. But do check the quality and sheerness of the fabric be sure that it is not see through…

I use a synthetic material, such as polyester. I don’t do hot yoga, so it wouldn’t be appropriate for that. But for hatha, ashtanga, etc., it’s OK.

I find wearing something beneath my shorts is requisite. Now “what” to wear there is the question. Certain under garments go very well - compression shorts for example, or boxers made from a sheer microfiber. Some shorts have an inner liner but I always wear something under. REI makes a nice pair of running shorts with a 6" inseam that is just perfect for both teaching and practice.

Since I don’t practice, study, or teach yoga where the body is externally heated I cannot comment on what is suitable for that.

Managed to find some very stretchy (they contain some spandex) shorts at a sports shop, forgot the brand, will post name later. Will also look into some pants. Thanks for all your suggestions.

I wear whatever old, crappy gym shorts that are clean, and tighty whiteys.

Prudence isn’t paranoia.

To the best of my knowledge Lululemon has moved away from the yoga line for men gearing towards runners and watersports. More’s the pity.

They gave me a pair of their running ones to revue for HotYoga but they did not work well as they were far too open and revealing.

I always wear underwear under shorts for hot yoga.
Ask a random female how she feels about men in speedos. Watch her face cringe and you’ll see why containing your boys is a win for one.

I also believe that underwear is more hygienic, and The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine cautions that the only way to eradicate bacterium and reduce transfers of norovirus, e.coli, salmonella Staphylococcus aureus and the petri dish including fungal infections including the spread of the superbug MRSA is with temperatures of 60c and above combined with a detergent containing bleach.

Hot temperatures and bleach on expensive outerwear?

MPG has a nice line of tank tops and some fitted yoga shorts and these or compression shorts are awesome for Hot Yoga.
Mountain Equipment Coop also has some pretty decent and affordable tanks and shorts.

Good luck

I use Pistol Pete long pants, called Speed Pants; they feel great and are thin material. It’s a gay web site tho: http://www.pistolpete.com/athletic-wear/speed-pant/

Before SA and Dick’s changed their women’s line, I bought women’s pants! But recently, their pants I don’t like …

Lululemon has thr pace breaker shorts which have a liner. I have a few pairs and they are great to practice in.

I just wear a t-shirt and training bottoms. I guess once I master more advanced asanas, I’ll have to change but for now it suffices.
