Mens Yoga

Hello all

I am currently working on developing a company that caters to men in yoga. The hope is to grow the male yoga community and help spread the health benefits and mental clarity to men who otherwise would not try it. We believe that there is a lot young men, and you male athletes, could gain from the practice of yoga. The company plans to start with an apparel line and we are trying to figure out what to call our selves. The below list is a collection of names that we are considering. Any feed back or thoughts on this entire process would be very much appreciated. There is nothing more beneficial then hearing form the community you are trying to serve. Ladys, we still want to hear from you as well so don’t be shy.

“We want to spread the health benefits of yoga to men! Here, buy our shirts!”

Sounds like your heart is in the right place and your company is sure to make a positive difference in the world.

Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Sounds like outdoor brands. I guess you are an outdoor man and not into yoga? no offence. And how can apparells make men start doing yoga?
More and more people will be doing yoga anyway as even some hospitals and rehabs have it already. And many see the benefits of yoga.

I started yoga as rehab for t.b.i. It has let me go off the awful meds I was taking
For dizziness and headache . Hatha Yoga seems be helping my balance problem as well as making me feel much better .imho

Perhaps some more background will be helpful. I am an outdoors man your right Fakeyogis, I don’t think that outdoors and yoga are mutually exclusive. I also have practiced yoga weekly for nearly two years and my business partner has even longer and has occasionally directed classes. We have a strong yoga perspective. The idea behind helping spread yoga to more men is an ideal its true. Apparel alone wont get men to try yoga. Its more about supporting men who try it with masculine functional clothing. I would love to hear more about what you think the brand needs to be or how it can improve. The same goes for you Fixed. What about your yoga apparel do you like, what could be better and how should the brand portray itself?

Thanks for your feed back, all of this is helpful.

I wear sweat paints that I cut off and mrs fixed hemmed then calf length .
Baggy gym shorts ,I did not like for yoga I am modest I guess . I like t shirts and would buy some yoga inspired t shirts and bottoms , good luck with the project :p.
IMHO. P.s. I was a cyclist before I was hit while riding so I was used to buying sport specific clothing

I was keen to provide an answer but on a 2nd read to the original post your true intentions “appear” to be profit ie sell apparel, brand name…rather than yoga for men…i hope i am mistaken but…

Some classes designed for men would be good…i would focus on asana based practise in short term BUT introducing the other limbs on a continual but slower pace…

but your idea still sounds like an ad:rolleyes:

Make them white or at least have white as an option. I only use white clothes for yoga. Very hard to find though. Black is darkness and energydraining colour.
The pants should be loose enough but not too loose , cotton or maybe linen for warmer climate.

But windstopper as in functional is not needed.

Do you have a clothing company already or is the clothing thing on the drawing desk only.

Thing is outdoor and yoga is not the same so having an outdoorname for yoga i dont think is a good idea but thats just my opinion and others may welcome it.

@jumper most people do things for profit. And many found yoga to be good for marketing i even saw five finger shoes to be marketed as yoga shoes, so there is no limits it seems.

i don’t think apparel wear will make men do yoga. I think yogi’s seek out good yoga apparel because they do yoga not the other way around. Take a look at Lululemon. This brand started out targeting yogis. Yogi’s realized that the fabric and material was superb when practicing yoga and so they bought (mainly women). Then the yoga trend became super popular among the women and tons of people started wearing lululemon yoga wear. Then the brand started making yoga wear for men and kids and then expanded to runners. With a name like “Lululemon” (which sounds kinda girly to be frank), the yoga men and runners are buying into this brand which helped expand this brand from just one small Vancouver Canadian store to worldwide stardom.

Bcgirl when saying it was superb when doing yoga i assume you talk about one style of yoga asanas in a fast manner When i do asanas it is not fast but static so for me i can use pretty much any clothings as long as they are comfortable.

Good quality and fit will sell it no matter if name is not the best.
