Dearest Mukunda,
I have a student who suffers severly from Migraines. I teach at a high school and one girl gets migraines from almost everything. The poses in Yoga class gives her migraines, she also said she gets them from allergies and any other form of excercise. She seems pretty frightened by it and does not understand it. I suggested that she see a doctor to check it out and she said that she did and they don’t know what it is. Any suggestions? Poses? Meditations?
Thank you for your invaluable help.
Michelle
I would foucs on relaxation and meditation techniques in her case. Let us uncover what makes her comfortable, and what lessens her fear. Since exercise bothers her it would be best to avoid it. Find out what images she is comfortable with and encourage visualizations on that theme. To begin with do a physical relaxation that would focus on such instructions as in my book on the wave breath (ujjaye) imaging it flowing into your body from the nostrils. Then in ever deepening waves to move it to her lower body. Subtle waves from below larger waves downward. There are many CDs on visualization among the best are those on Yoga Nidra as this is more profound at releasing the details of stress.
There are many possibilities for what cause it but since we are not doctors we cannot diagnose, we can however guess and see if our ideas seem valuable enought for her to pursue. Some ideas include food allergies, neck or shoulder tensions, worries, and suppressed emotions. namaste mukunda
