Music and Yoga

I love listening to relaxing sounds during my yoga sessions. Recently my friend and fellow yoga partner at umgd let me listen to a few tracks off the new Madeleine Peyroux album, “Half the Perfect World” that just dropped last week. It reminded me of Norah Jones with old blues undertones. Has anyone heard of her/do you listen to music and do yoga at the same time?

If I’m not using a DVD guide, I listen to music. I usually use Krishna Das, the soundtrack to “House of Flying Daggers” or CDs I’ve found at places like Bed, Bath & Beyond such as “Zen Grooves” or “Tai Chi” (you can see at some stores like Target… has a red field with a black and white stone yin-yang).

I listen to some music I got from http://www.invinciblemusic.com/yoga-music-reiki-music-21.htm so you can hear a demo of what I use. So what do you think?

I teach in places that are not dedicated yoga studios and have found that music helps to transform these rooms in a sacred place. I love Ben Leinbach and Jai Uttal, Todd Norian’s Bija and Deep Peace are lovely, and Mark Kelso’s CD that accompanied Stephen Cope’s Kripalu Gentle Yoga kit is wonderful. For my own personal practice… I love music in the background.
Peace,
Cathy
