Music?

do you like listening to music while you do yoga? …if so what kind of music do you listen to?
i quite like listening to relaxing music when i do yoga… but i don’t have that much good music… if you know any good cds/bands i could listen to while i do yoga could you please tell me some?

thank you:)

Are you a Yoga Instructor? Many institutions providing yoga are requiring that all music from April 1st must be PPCA free, so to avoid paying $5 per person per month to PPCA

deva premal
any Lamakrta singing (tibetian chanting)
Sheila Chandra

I love Donna De Lory and Snatam Kaur is also really relaxing.
Often I listen to soft jazz when I practice. Actually Norah Jones is just lovely.

The thing I have found about practicing yoga to music is that when the song changes my mood changes along with it, and I might not have wanted to change at that point. So normally I don’t listen while practicing. But I do enjoy the sensation of music while practicing at times, and so then listen to the Spa channel on Sirius XM (and no, I have no financial interest in them.) What I need to do is get a turntable and listen to Miles Davis’s “In a Silent Way.”

what is ‘PPCA’? no i’m not an instructor.

If your not an instructor then you don’t need to be concerned. For any Australian instructors, depending on where you work, you may have to be selective with your music.

oh okay, thanks

Very interesting - I guess there are a lot of people unaware about playing music in a public place - like a studio or restaurant. OK if you get your licence but wow some of those fines were steep.

I know a yoga instructor who is getting music made up by a friend because of all the problems

Of course i used to hear music while doing my yoga. But not usual music is where the difference matters!!

I always hear mantras during my yoga time. I am using an app for my iPhone named Ojas from which i am getting some extremely good mantras and vedas. It is really helping to make mind on a concentrate level…It is really simple and worthy… try!!

Also check out Sahaja Yoga Music, very nicely done by Indians

that does not have words. Anything soothing or even sound effects like the ocean or birds in a forest. Go to your favorite quite place(ocean early in the morning, rain fall hitting a garden or rocks, fountain and make your own music.

thanks everyone! i will check out all this music. i have already looked at some.

i actually like listening to pop music sometimes when i do yoga, even though you wouldn’t think it would suit it, i enjoy it, it seems to make me feel more powerful sort of, and i enjoy the music so much more than i normally would for some reason.

but i need some relaxing music as well, because i’m not allways in the mood.
also i loved the sort of indian music my yoga class used when i did classes.
