Small correction : Meditating on thid eye is actually activating Pineal gland and not Pituitary gland. Pineal gland is scientifically proven to be storing our genetic code. You might now make sense drawing relation between spiritual terms like Enlightenment, awareness, knowing ourselves with Pineal gland n its activation or third eye. This concept is abstract.

Thanks again.
Could you please answer my last question too:
A very important thing I want to ask is that what is that cold air that I feel comes out of my third eye (forehead) ??? and what does it mean?
Could you please explain???
Thanks again
I understand that you are more interested in the experiences or events that occur during and after the meditation. Unfortunately, i cannot answer your question because such experiences are different for different individuals. All I can say that every one has one or more of such expericences while meditating. They are more vivid at first time and seem to fade away. Essentially, you might want to concentrate on how meditation changed your thought process, your response to outside events, if you find it easier to communicate, how is your public speaking improving, if you are still a pushover(though this is more related to first chakra-muladhara) and hence if your life is improving in all walks. I would keep on this meditation. On different note, I would also suggest Awareness meditation or mindfulness while doing daily activities.
I’m a bit practical person…sorry!

Yes I understand what you mean. I also try to keep my awareness during all my daily and routine activities. I am somehow always in meditation situation.
My behavior has changed a lot. For example I was used to get furious by any small criticism but now I not only don’t get upset but I like the others to criticize me and show me my mistakes. Or I was really hard to forgive the others but now I don’t even think about those who bothered me.
I think these are big changes, aren’t?
Thanks
Yes, You are on the right path. Since this is the forum about yoga I suggest Hatha Yoga for you to activate all Chakras starting with Muladhara. Root chakra is our ability to let go Bad habits, bad Karma which define your future. Hormony at this chakra also mean that you are not pushover and are eeply rooted to ground. You obtain energy from mother earth and this life energy travels through all chakras including Sahasrara and escapes to Universe as cosmic energy. At this level it is said that one becomes prefect conductor of the Cosmic energy. The person becomes bright light. This state is said to be what we call Enlightenment. Ever wonder why pictures of all saints, Gods in religions are drawn with white aura behind their heads. This is 7 th chakra. On more practical note if you want to work on 7 th Chakra, there are some asanas in Hatha Yoga like shirshasana. Caution: pl take experts advice if you want to do any complex asanas like this one.

Thousands of thanks. I will follow your advice.

I just wanted to say I am really good in shirshasana
Thanks again.
Dear VaAjna,
From my limited experience I would agree with TransYoga advice to work on the base chakras first, especially on Muladhara to keep your foundation solid. From what I have learned there are different kinds of samadhi, and it is easy to get lost in them. When one gets enlightened I think one knows about it because it continues on.
I feel very fortunate to find a teacher, my ajna chakra became hot after I read a book about him, so now I am practicing yoga for a year and a half and I think I am still just beginning to comprehend what is it all about. Keep on the good practice!
Blessings.
Hi there,
I have just come across a reference to this while researching Kundalini yoga.
Apparently awakened Kundalini can be felt as a cool breeze on the fingertips and the fontanelle bone area (is that the 3rd eye area?)
Hope that helps…

Namaste VaAjna:
Here's some reference material regarding the Ajna Chakra for your consideration:

The activation of this chakra is primarily related to spiritual 'inner vision', and should thus be approached with a priority of looking within to quiet the constant fluctuations and modifications of mental activity, rather than looking outside yourself for additional mental 'baggage' in the form of further intellectual understanding and interpretation of that which is experienced as this chakra opens.
Simply observe these phenomenon, striving to be totally present in the moment of the experience, without attaching any value judgments to them based on your personal discrimination. In this way, all will be clear in due time!
Hi Everybody,
I have been working on my Ajna Chakra for a long time and now I see lights and flashes and I also feel something like a cold air comes out or my Ajna Chakra sometimes.
...
What all of these mean to me?
Does it mean that my Ajna Chakra is getting activated? Please let me know. Thanks in advance :)
Lights and flashes show that Ajna chakra is blocked. Please find more info HERE.

I think when folks refer to the fontanelle, they usually mean the anterior, or frontal fontanelle. This is located at the Crown chakra: it’s the “soft spot” on a baby’s head before the bones ossify.

I am a somewhat regular meditator and less disciplined yoga practioner who has had sensations of varying degrees in the ajna chakra area for years and the above sounds like great advice to me. At first when this started a few years ago i thought that it really meant something special and wasted some time and energy feeling special and trying to find out what it meant and if there was something i should do about it. I still feel sensations in that area from time to time but not as intensely as i used to. I think the best thing is to relax, let go, be present and breathe
EDIT: About the visual phenomena, some people see visual artifacts when experiencing alpha brain wave states. Alpha waves are perfectly normal when one is focused internally or entering sleep or meditating. The visual manifestations can be quite entertaining tho cant they
If you are seeing lights before sleep they could also be hypnagogic flashes (check google) alot of people get them before sleep overtakes.
Also i wanted to note that the above opinion is from the perspective of a buddhist meditator and not a yoga practioner. Sorry if it does not apply, forgive me, im a noob at yoga spirituality.
Hi! I only ever had one experience with my Ajna chakra, when I was 19. At that stage I didn’t know anything about Yoga or chakras. I was in New Guinea on an island. The island had lots of planes and ships on the bottom of the ocean all around, and a violent history, apparently the Japs beheaded their prisoners on that island.
I had ‘visitations’ by spirits, it only ever lasted a few seconds, and they ALWAYS came in through the third eye. I kind of saw them on ‘the inside’ in the region of the ajna chakra. Extremely scary and I never, ever want to have that happen again. Seeing spirits is highly over-rated.
So, be careful opening your ‘inner guru’, your ajna chakra! You might ‘see’ things that you won’t be able to handle on an emotional and mental level. Elisabeth
Seeker33,
Very good graphical illustration
hey just a quick question iv been doin third eye meditaiton and normal meditation for like 7 months now im in the state were i feel pressure but yet no light i noe im near but how long did it take u to see the light thanks
IN the darkness between the brows I look for a tiny little light, its a white/yellow light…when I see it I try and hold on to it…It comes and goes…I lose it but keep looking and looking…when it gets bigger this is the third eye beginning to open. I find that then I am traveling, very fast somewhere undetermined. (you can intervene at this point and determine where you go, I dont) i tend to do this mostly laying on my back, relaxed, eyes closed drawn inwards just a touch, dont think of anything but just look for the light, in the darkness.
Another format you can see is a blue violet light, look past it and into it…this is difficult to explain, you will see a hole appear in the blue/violet light. If your steady in focus at the hole, the hole gets bigger You will then see a scene of some sort, might be real people in real time…all sorts!
Another format is the highest attainment for the Ajna Chakra, the path to the Inner Guru inside you. It helps to have a very tired body so focus isnt distracted by your body. You see red streaks intermingling with the blackness. There is a definite steady pace as you move ahead, watching the red intertwining with blackness. The journey ends with the sight of the seated Guru who is sitting in Lotus position, a real man in sight! He is in a meditative pose, eyes shut index finger to thumbs etc.
Whatever you think will happen so keep it simple like who is that, what does he look like more closely, as you think this your sight moves closer to him. In Buddhism this format is called the red Heart where the inner Guru waits for you to wake him up. When you do, he enters your Brow and sits their at the entrance, a tiny real life Buddha! He comes in and out…the goal is to make him life size…a high attainment…all sorts happen in a positive way…fail him in your thinking, and he goes back to his original state.
I should point out that when you are in this state with the inner guru at your brow, the third eye is permanently open. You will have very powerful abilities but your mind must stay ‘clear and bright’, as the Buddhists say.
The ajna chakra is best worked at with the heart chakra.
I read above somewhere that someone has put that you needn’t worry about Ajna chakra.
I have to disagree with this. Wrong use can be damaging and cause Brain tumours and abscesses, eye, sinus, glands under the jaw line, and headache problems, the ajna chakra must be balanced to avoid this. Some people use pure crystals resting on the brow. (I dont do this) I keep my mind as focussed and clear as poss. I dont practice ajna if I am angry, upset, or for whatever reason, lacking in high focus.
Additionally, if the third eye is permanently open you can bring thru beings of the wrong sort into the room you are in, you will see them, Big issue when it happens but thats another thing.
The above info is taken from long experience with this chakra, rather than anything I have read. Although I have read things to back this up
All is factual in experience Right thinking everyday is necessary if you are working with AJNA Chakra and of course any of the upper Chakras, in particular.
Hope this is useful…Interesting is that I never have had any physical experiences that go with the ajna like air, pressure, wind, irritations etc. But I have wth the heart Chakra
Opening or rather activating chakras cannot be an end in itself. In the initial stage, that itself extends over several years, we locate a chakra by associated physical body area. This by itself is approximate. For example, ajna chakra is still described as “between the eye-brows”. or its effetcs are perceived as hot or cold. We need to understand that this very physical terms show that we haven’t yet really elevated awareness to the subtle astral level to which chakras belong.
Though a few may be gifted with ability to envision unusual colors inside the closed eyes that many believe comes from spiritual legacy of earlier lives, not all are so fortunate. Brain’s capacity to decipher and memorize colors and shapes is amazing and a lot of that happens without our conscious knowledge. Very often, these shapes and colors get excited when conscious mind is resting and play their kaleidoscope that tricks us. After all, light is an object; enlightenment is not.
Let us make no mistake. To be able to calm the mind and see colors is no small achievement, but temptation to equate that with awakening chakras may be hasty. Chakras are local functional leaders. Their vitality should be judged by their performance. (A lot of literature already exists)
Likewise, the third eye is not a mere ornament, it should enable us to see what we can’t ordinarily see with the two mortal eyes, particularly within. And one such special “seeing” is of chakras themselves. Then there is no need to assign them any physical address.
so is the thrid eye the easiet charkra to open or the other ones
