My body seems to want more yoga

Ok i hope i can explain this. Been doing yoga for a yr,and i practice a lot, every day for one hr. It seems like the more i do the more my body needs. I feel great for a few hrs after my practice but then my body craves more. I get stiff when i wake up,that never happened before i started yoga. It’s like my mind and body is saying go practice. Im not complaing just wondering

Hey! I Thought of this last night. I recall a time when every day of my life was spent watching tv on my couch and yet I only ever seemed to notice a little stiff pain in the neck. Now that I practice every day or every other day I notice EVERYTHING. I notice everywhere that my body is tight, every joint that doesn’t feel well. I can identify a muscle that needs stretching in the middle of my arm and figure out how to stretch only that muscle in the exact perfect way so that I find relief.

Its the heightened awareness that comes with the practice. Maybe you needed it before and never noticed because it wasn’t a priority at any time to pay close attention to it when there wasn’t pain.

It bugs me to have these aches and pains but overall I feel very grateful for it.

Hello Massjet.

If you would kindly add some information about yourself and your practice I’ll respond more fully to your post.
If you would kindly add some information about yourself and your practice I’ll respond more fully to your post.
im 57 in good health been practicing for a yr try and do a practice every day. I do a core yoga once a week a power yoga once a week and the rest filled with level 1 to 2.

I have been doing yoga for only a short time but I have been doing it pretty faithfully but today I over slept and had not time. I went to work and I did not feel right all day and now my neck and shoulders are getting stiff.

Maybe unrealted but then maybe it is realted, just wondering?

Yes bot are possible. Related and unrelated.
These sorts of things are best taken with a “wait and see” attitude. In that way the study of yourself becomes more accurate. Otherwise it is merely a series of shots in the dark.

Another possibility is that you’ve heightened your body awareness and the stiffness you now notice you have had for a long time but never really paid attention to it.

Thanks

I was not able to do any Yoga this morning either and as the day wore on my shoulders and neck began to hurt and my knees and back started hurting as well. I stopped everything and went and did Yoga.

My shoulders are still stiff but they don’t hurt and my neck, back and knees are now fine.

Yoga is more amazing than I originally thought.

I’ve noticed this pattern as well. I’ll feel stiff and not sure if I am up to a class, but then I go to the class, open up the tight places and, after the final restorative poses, feel much better. I think there’s a tendency, after opening up and extending, to start tightening and gripping again, particularly if my day at work is stressful. What’s interesting is that I suspect I did this all the time, but simply wasn’t aware of it, since I a) rarely loosened up and b) usually didn’t notice if I was allowing stress to take up residence in my body.

if you read two post down “my body wants more yoga” i was saying the same thing. I guess it’s normal for the body to feel more after a short time of yoga

There are two other possibilities that I wanted to share. The first is lifestyle and the second is nutrition. When not appropriately honored both of these can result in a less mobile structure.
