Songs of this hungarian band has been sent to the cosmos, through the program Cosmic Call.
A very nice piece, with deep lyrics … too bad (for you) it’s in hungarian. Perhaps the extraterrestrial will understand it better.
Hey, this reminded me a funny story about Albert Einstein. He was asked if he beleives in extraterrestrial intelligence. He said, ceirtanly, the extraterrestrials are here, among us, they are very clever, and between them, they talk hungarian. By this he meant his hungarian-jew astrophysicist colleagues, like Leo Szil?rd, Ede Teller, aso.

The title means, “When the light becomes shadow”

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend some good “mood music” for yoga? I love everything from ambient piano (not jazzy, but sort of more…new age-ish) to cultural flute & dirge, etc. But I’m not well-versed in music that’s conducive to yoga. Particularly more meditative, relaxing varieties.

I did stumble on an artist named Rhaban Ali Shai and liked the album “Healing Spirits”, and it got me thinking I’d love to gather more good yoga music for my arsenal. I like to have soft music or a fountain or some other form of environmental enhancement when I practice - I know some people are quite against this and believe in the power of silence but the way my brain is hard wired, silence fuels distraction…I think it’s possible to be mentally silent when there’s sound around. It falls into the realm of “to each his own” to me.

I did find a thread where Dreamsoul mentioned omstream.com which I’ll check out, and Pandara recommended Deva Premal. So thanks to you both, I’ll look into them.

Namaste!

I very much enjoy silence too.
What are you looking for i wonder.
Namaste Louise

Something gentle that’s a good soundtrack to yoga. It’s just a psychological impossibility for me to do silence externally. I can get into a peaceful silent state of mind internally when there is external noise (not violent noise, something nice like pretty music or fountains) but if there is no sound outside me, my mind is disquiet. I won’t get into the reasons, but with a background in Psychology and the ongoing care of a psychiatrist/neurologist I can attest to the fact that external silence will never be my cup of tea. It is the way I was created and I can live with it.

So simple music, chimes or flutes, piano, anything like that. I thought perhaps people here might have some ideas. But if not, then that’s fine!

Namaste.

I play Dueter’s: Nada Himalaya for some of my Yoga therapy client sessions. I like it because it there are no words or voices and I find the music very soothing. The link takes you to page where you can sample it.

Om Shanti,

Thank you for the suggestion Nichole, that’s exactly the sort of thing I’d like!

Two that lift me up are “Everybody Ona Move”, Michael Franti, and “Hey Shiva Shankara”, Dave Stringer.

There are live versions of “Everybody…” on youtube but the quality is discouragingly poor.
There is a passable live version of “Hey Shiva…” here: Hey Shiva Shankara by kirtan – Revver Online Video Sharing Network, but again the studio version is da bomb.

One music vid on youtube that does inspire me is this acroyoga routine by yogi/yogini Jason Nemer and Jenny Sauer-Klein YouTube - acroyoga with jason & Jenny @svahayoga, Amsterdam .
The tune is “Roady” by Fat Freddy’s Drop.
Another pretty good one with Jason & Jenny: YouTube - AcroYoga “Acrolicious”

Also, I still have yet to tire of the Free Hugs music vid set to “All the Same” by Sick Puppies YouTube - Free Hugs Campaign. (music by Sick Puppies.net album out) , although I probably wouldn’t disagree much if someone argued that it’s the video, not so much the music, that inspires.

If you enjoy solo Native American flute, you may enjoy R. Carlos Nakai’s “Emergence” Amazon.com: Emergence: R. Carlos Nakai: Music

Robert Slap’s “Eternal OM” is basically just male voices repeatedly chanting “Om”, one voice at a time, but overlaping each other as previous voices fade away.

“Tamboura” is just unaccompanied tamboura. If not familar, a tamboura often accompanys a sitar and contributes some extra buzzing-string drone. Amazon.com: Tamboura: Music for Deep Meditation: Music

Thank you Stillwater! I have some of Nakai’s music, it’s very beautiful. I’ll have to check if I have the one you recommended…I forget titles so easily because I carry his CDs in a folio for when I need something relaxing when I’m out & about. I lose track without the cover art.

What a great find with the eternal OM & the simple drone - sometimes a simple sound is all I need, too! I appreciate the suggestions.

By the way Nichole, I bought mp3s of lots of Dueter albums today after your suggestion. Everything I previewed I loved.

Namaste.

I enjoy very different kinds of music : classical Western music, zen flute, Hindi music, classical Indian music, some rock music, vedic chanting aso…

But I don’t use music while doing asanas, pranayama.

Here is a music from Bach - little fugue :

Hi Cuisle,
Oh i see now. If you like gentle piano music try Chopins Nocturnes. Very well known in every liberary on CD.

If you love music you will find in there - between the notes playing - moments of silence. That is whats making the ritme and the melody. So in time you can be with sound and with silence.

There is one Tibetan mantra called Vijaya Devi Mantra . It is very gentle music . It is a healing mantra and a plea for a long and healthy life and to discover the secret hidden force. Think you will enjoy it very much.

Thank you both Philippe and Louise for your recommendations! More good stuff for me to investigate today.

Louise, very wise words about sound and silence in music. Thank you.

Laura Powers: Answer me with silence

I listened, thank you Hubert for posting . it is beautiful music

and it made me realise i talk to much, please forgive me
so i say thank you to all silent instruments

with love from louise

How lovely Hubert, thank you!

What a great idea for a thread. I’m a songwriter with influences all over the musical map but for yoga and meditation, I do have a few faves:

Sheila Chandra
Snatam Kaur Khalsa
Krishna Das
Wah!
Deva Premal

Hey, it wasn’t a reply, it was just a post. From time to time, I come here to share … and I shamefully admit, that I am at difficulty keeping up with other posts.

I don’t think you talk too much, especially when you talk so well.

Anna Ternheim: My Secret “…Some would say that you won’t find love that way. The best days are not planned by common sense, by lack of time–you just happen to be where thing feels fine…”

Verve: Rather Be “…In a world full of confusion, yeah, human race. But I’d rather be here than be anywhere, is there anywhere better than here?..”

Here are two songs that are on the current, self-created soundtrack of my life.

*nichole

I have personally bought a few albums from amazon.com , all are different, suits different moods and I think it’s very nice:

  1. Crimson volume 6 & 7 by Singh Kaur —Ardas is my favourite ,it’s so beautiful.

  2. Seven Metals Singing Bowls of Tibet — so silent and peaceful

  3. Yoga Lounge by Chinmaya Dunster & Niladri Kumar — very sexy music, for yoga, for relaxation, for intimacy.
