Hello and Namaste!
I am from India. I love Yoga and Pranayama. I own a yoga site.
I believe that India is world teacher of yoga. Yoga was originated in India about 5000 years back. Outside India, the word ‘Yoga’ is limited to physical exercises only while it is meant for much wider terms like mental, spiritual, breathing and physical practices. This is what I am trying to explore the world ‘Yoga’ in my website…thanks:)
Namaste and welcome to the forum. You are correct in as far as human history can remember that India is the mother of yoga. However, you are generalising to say that outside India yoga is limited to only physical exercise and basically stating that it has no substance in the west.
On this forum I have seen Indians who have no clue about the truth of yoga and I have seen westerners who have realised the truth of yoga and vice versa.
During my own travels to India I have experienced that there are great Lights in India who understand the truth of yoga, but also that there are those who live in the Mother who are not even aware of living. Same in the west, I had contact with great western yoga teachers and masters, but I have also seen an unawareness in the west which is comparable to that of India.
Travel to the west, you will be surprised in what you will find here.
It will be nice to get an Indian perspective!
In India, do you practice yoga at home or go to a class with others?
I spent some time in India and loved it! I hope to go back soon.
It’ll be nice to have you in the discussions, YogaMax!

I agree 100% with Pandara. I could be the best example to prove it. I am Indian and had no clue about Yoga (do I still?) until before 8-9 months back when my father introduced me to it. I grew up in India and heard a lot about Yoga, but always thought it was not for comman people, it was was the Rishis and Sadhus.
I am amazed on how much people in the western world have knowledge about the truth of yoga. I guess sometimes people just don’t know wha they have until they lose it.
