Name That Asana

Brainlock: From Setu Bandha Sarvangasana, go a little deeper and grasp the ankles or use a belt. I’m without my LoY and can’t think of the name of this asana. Thanks for your help. - Bill

Are you sure it has a name of its own? Setu Bandha Sarvangasana means supported bridge pose if I am not mistaken, and you seem to describe only a variation of that…?

Thank you for your reply. No, I am no longer certain there is a different name for the “bound” pose. After I posted this I did some more research. You are right; Banddha means bound, and grasping the ankles would meet that criteria. I’ll ask my teacher tonight and let you know. I thought they were using a separate name. Perhaps I am mistaken.

Got it. My teacher explained: Chatus Padasana, (see the image: at iyengaryoga dot co dot nz /photogallery.aspx#9), is not in Light on Yoga but was adopted more recently. Apparently championed by Patricia Walden and is now part of the Iyengar curriculum. An excellent preparatory pose for Salamba Sarvasgasana and perhaps safer for beginning students? Thanks for the help!
