Neck cracks

Hi,

So I’ve been doing Yoga steadily for about 5 months. I feel very good and stretched out.
One thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes when I’m just walking down the street I’ll turn and I get a neck crack. it doesn’t hurt or anything, but I just get a crack. Actually it kind of feels good.

Is this normal?

Namaste

I was told by more than one physiotherapist that body snaps and cracks are fine and normal as long a they don’t hurt. I get that neck crack thing too. It’s like a release.

you guys,

True: your body is always adjusting and realigning itself naturally, but if it always happens in the same joint, it’s a indication of weakness and instability, (reciprocal to limited ROM elsewhere, perhaps)? If it goes on for weeks and doesn’t change on its own, then you have to change something. The snap and pop causes endorphin release, the “feels good” part, which is caused by trauma to the joint. Keep that in mind. Same goes for chronic self-adjustment: even when it feels good, it’s not necessarily a good thing for you. It takes it toll on the joint.

Thanks. No. I would say that this is not always in the same joint. Or same area. And so far I can’t make it happen on command.

For what it?s worth, I remember reading an article buy an orthopedic surgeon who did a lifelong trial and error; incessantly cracking fingers one hand never the other, near the end of his life there was no detectable difference between the sets of fingers.

Perhaps.

That makes me wonder as in ayurveda ive seen the doctors crack their joints and even on their clients it could be possible that ayurveda has changed over time. I was told it was not good when i was young. I guess it depends on how much force we apply and if muscle is relaxed or stiff where the latter would be worse. . Or just that some are “lucky” if luck and not actions and reactions decide it in the end.

It is also possible that If one has a lock so that one cant move the neck properly and the crank makes one able to turn their head it will feel good without the endorphine. It will feel like a relief same relief as one is very flexible like one is not limited in their movement.
