Need advice on yoga sports bra

Hi Ladies, I could really use some advice.

I’ve been practicing for about 6 months now and while I love yoga, I’m growing to hate my heavy-duty compression/encapsulation sports bra. It’s still my number one choice for high-impact activities, but I find that all that compression and constriction makes controlled breathing, especially inhalation, very difficult. I’d love to ditch it for something that is more accommodating of yoga movements but the problem arises because, as my grandmother tactfully puts it, I’m “very well endowed.” A regular bra or tank with standard shelf-bra won’t give me enough support for poses, especially anything that involves backbends or inversions. I was hoping that some of you might have some advice on how I can find enough support for practice without having to fight the band for each breath?

I wear a champion sports bra - it’s supports like the typical sports bra without the supercompression - it has more of a “shape” to it - as opposed to the “uniboob” look. Here’s the link: http://www.championcatalog.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/ProductDisplay?prnbr=CH072&cgnbr=3011000000

You might want to take a look at Breeze Comfort sports bras. The bras are made with patented bra pad technology. The bra pads have perforations throughout to facilitate air circulation to the breast area. This helps release heat and helps prevent sponge effect (sweat collecting in the traditional bra pads). If you believe breathing is important in yoga, then letting toxins out of your body more efficiently through breathable clothing is just as important.

Why do you even need a bra for doing yoga? You could simply use just a shirt.

Have you thought of trying a maternity bra? They are soft and some have racer backs, so they look like sports bras. They tend to be breathable too.

I agree with you, Brianna. I love going braless but I do tend to wear tank tops with built-in-bras designed for low-impact activity such as yoga, walking, etc.

They sell them everywhere.

Because some of us ladies are more endowed then others. It’s nearly impossible without some type of support, so we can feel comfortable and relax while doing our practice. Me going braless would not be good

You might find something in the Zobha line. Though I don’t know how a 360? shelf bra would work for you.

I have a quite large breast and do not need any special bra for yoga… I need it for running thought…

Some of us have large breasts that are not self-supporting, and it is downright embarrassing to have them flopping and hanging all over the place (forgive the visual, people). Not only that, it’s uncomfortable.

I’ve tried to do yoga braless myself, and while I appreciate the feeling of freedom and lack of constriction, the darn things get in the way and have to be shifted and moved about especially in poses where one is lying on their stomach. Not comfy. I’m much happier just wearing a regular bra while doing my yoga.

Have you tried the Margarita Activewear tank tops with built-ins? Thats what i use and they are very good indeed. They provide a good level of support without the heaviness.

A part from the Brand the size of the Bra does make difference for getting comfort while doing Yoga/Meditation.

I have seen many women wearing only T-shirt leaving their big ones hanging in the air to get maximum comfort.

I am also “well endowed”, and to make things more difficult, I have a teeny tiny ribcage. I have tried Champion’s sports bras and they are ok- they fit on the breast well and have a little uni-boob action, but talk about LOOSE around the rib cage! Not good.

Lululemon is the only brand of sports bra I will now wear. Some styles come in dress sizes, like 2, 4, 6, etc, and some in bra sizes, like “34C”. They fit really snug around the ribcage, so you don’t have to worry about it moving around when it starts to get sweaty, and no uni-boob. They come in different styles and fits to suit your ahem “endowment” and they actually look really cute on. They look nice peeking out from a tank top. Highly recommended.

ginarw, I am glad you asked about this… I am also “well endowed” at 36D and still fricken growing… I have 2 sport bras, but they dont do the trick. I will benefit from everything you guys said, so, Thank you!!! snuggles

In addition to support, breathe-ability is also a key consideration when shopping for sports bras. Encapsulation sports bras typically resembles the traditional padded bras. Each breast is supported by the bra pad, the outer materials, and sometime underwire. Even though the encapsulation sports bra are made with moisture wicking material, the underlying pads will absorb sweat causing discomfort to the wearer. Ideally, the bra pads in the encapsulation sports bras should have perforations to facilitate air circulation to the breast area. This will not only provide a more comfortable wearing experience, it is also very important for general breast health.

i love goddess bras, they give good support and are confortable, you can find them on classicshapewear.com.

Steer clear of the Enell bra for yoga. Although it’s great for running or boxing - it’s a total constriction/straight-jacket style that is NOT good for yoga.

I just wear what fits comfortably…I actually never wear a sports bra…just mainly ones that can absorb sweat fairly well, wont be loose but wont be so tight that I can’t breathe. Maybe go to victorias secret and ask the people there? I know that they have some yoga wears as well as sports bras.
