Need guidance for ?Bandhas? and ?Vajroli Mudra?

Hi friends !

I am new to ?Yoga Forums? and this is my first post. Let me introduce myself. I am an Indian male of age 30 living outside India. I am still unmarried and from last one year, I am practicing some yoga asanas in sequences as directed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati in his book ?Kundalini Tantra? that is

  1. Padmasana
  2. Siddhasana
  3. Shirshasana
  4. Sarvangasana
  5. Matasyasana
  6. Bhujangasana
  7. Dhanurasana
  8. Salabhasana
  9. Pashchittomasana

I also perform the three basic bandhas (Moola Bandha, Uddhiyana Bandha and Jalandhar Bandha) separately and also with Padmasana and Siddhasana postures.

For bandhas, I am not sure if I am doing them correctly or not. Here I am practicing them at home without any instructor (reading ?Yoga Deepika? by B. K. S. Iyengar and ?Kundalini Tantra? by Swami Satyananda Saraswati) as I live outside India where I can not get any instructor or any yoga institution.

Now, I also want to master ?Vajroli Mudra?. I use to squeeze and expand the urinary muscle and stop and start while I urinate by contracting the perineum muscles. But again, I do it as explained in books.

Please tell me and direct me how should I perform these bandhas and what precautions I should take while urinating ? Should I perform squeeze (contract) and release method every time I urinate !!!

Thanks in advance.

Dear Satchitananda,

Thank you very much for joining this forum.

What I must tell you that you have listed above some asanas and some bandhas.
Only five asanas and three bandhas followed by Pranayama can get you your desired results.

I will layout a plan for you like this:

Wake up early 5.00 AM in the morning
Wash your face, brush your teeth
Sit down and do meditate for 15 minutes.
Then perform Anulom-Vilom and Kapalabhati Pranayama.
Then go out and perform Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara)
Take four to five asanas and practice those daily until you master those do not opt for new asanas. But most likely Siddhasana, padmasana, Paschimottanasana, Bhujangasana and Dhanurasana is enough to solve most of your physical disorders.

Then take a warm fresh bath.

If you feel over weight then also you can drink warm lemon water with a very little salt added. Do not take if you are thin.

I think you are after squeezing or contracting because of longevity purpose and three bandhas would do exactly the same. And if you are not under any expert guidance then just follow what I have laid out a plan for you.

Hope this helps

Thanks,

Kindest to you,

Kindly throw some light on correct technique of practicing Tribandh Pranayama

Thanks & Regards,
Shahvir

Thanks for the replies and sorry for not responding instantly. Well…I will go with the suggestions. One thing I have to ask you as you mentioned about “Anulom-Vilom”. So while doing it, should I inhale and exhale rapidly or slowly slowly. In some of yoga sites, it was mentioned that the inhale and exhale MUST be quickly (2 second for inhale and 2 second for exhale) and the breathing MUST be from lungs and not stomach.

In other sites, even retention (Kumbhaka) was also instructed between inhale and exhale. What is best ?

First thing I want to tell you that do inhale and exhale immediately for atleast one month.
Then at the advance level you can retain your breath for long.
