Need tips overcoming material desire

im not that materialistic, but i find myself eyeing apple products alot.

personally i think they are the worst thing to happen to electronics, the PC is superior in every way, android is superior to IOS in every way, but because of the ego the logo generates, society goes crazy for them.

i been finding myself browsing for a used mac and even the ones from like 2006 are 800$, my PC cost 1200$ and outperforms even the new macs that cost $3000+ !!!

it is just ridiculous, and i am disgusted that i keep wanting a mac, i have absolutely 0 need for one, i basically only want for show :S

i tell my ego, just let go, u dont need one!!

but i cant stop wanting one :frowning: i am a sucker for electronics, clothes, and my girlfriend :o

“im not that materialistic”

“i am a sucker for electronics, clothes…”

Start with some deep introspection, then buy one. But I wouldn’t be surprised if your desire for a Mac then gets redirected to something else.

I found in the past that I was trying to fill a hole in my heart with possessions, when that hole’s vastness could only really be filled by Truth/God/Awareness.

Get more into your practice, meditate, ask your soul why you want the Mac, then tackle the reason, not the object.

what would you do with a mac, if you had one?
i basically only want for show :S
What do you want to achieve with the show? Do you want to be loved? Do you want to be respected? Do you want to be a somewhat different person? Which of your needs does the Mac promise to fulfil? You can have a look at the Maslow pyramid to learn about concepts marketers use.

What about the Mac advertisement “gets” you?

Yeh
basically just want because, it’s new to me

I know after few days I’d lose interest and my money

But been wanting one for over and year

Maybe better to get I pad, cheaper I guess and can get Matt alas I donut
New but I don’t know, I’ll meditate on this,

Thanks guys

This is some years old, but explains people’s attraction towards Apple very well. Maybe you find yourself here

Contemplate Death everyday…

It doesn’t have to be a negative exerience unless you make it that.

Try giving thought to…If I were to die today, what would I take with me? what would be most important to me in this moment?

Get comfortable with the idea that material objects won’t go with you when you die. They are just distractions…now a PC is practical, just try to avoid becoming attached…what if your PC broke today and you couldn’t ever get another one…how would you feel? would it be hard for you…could you manage emotionally?

(rhetorical questions)

Anatomy of desire

Basic instinct --> ego: personal compulsion --> perception: particular object --> thought: context of culture, time & space --> mind: stoke the fire.

Try an axe on mind, it will hoodwink; curb thought, it will re-appear; stop perception, image will still linger; tame the ego, wilder it gets.

Kill the basic instinct, but can’t find it. Take a pause and ignore it.
