Neti Pot: White Build UP

Hi, I have white stuff on the bottom of my neti pot, I have been using the sinucleanse salt which is designed for these pots.

Is it normal to get white stuff on the bottom of the pot?

Thanks

If you use hard water (high in calcium) the “white stuff” is probably lime scale. It can easily be removed by washing the pot with vinegar.

Are you sure it’s limescale? It doesn’t really look like limescale, I have that in my kettle.

This looks like a thin white film and tastes slightly salty. I originally thought it might be sodium bicarbonate (it has that same slightly salty taste) and the sinucleanse salt includes sodium bicarbonate for some reason (why is that in there?).

Do you think it still could be limescale knowing that it looks like a thin white film? Also I don’t go boiling water in it, so how can limescale build up in there?

Thanks

After you are done with hour neti you are suppose to wash it. I guess you didnt and so build up is there. Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes ph value and also create an unsuitable environment for bacteria. But i think salt is enough.

You can even use salt or salt/sodium bicarbonate as mouthwash as well. Cheaper and better than what you buy in the shop. As well as u know what you put into your mouth instead of all those chemicals.

Clean it. Use only filtered water and fine sea salt. See what happens.

Is this salt OK to use?

Would not be my first choice.

Is it coarse or fine? Simply doesn’t say. And the feedback from others makes me suspicious not of its quality but of it’s nature.

What do you think of this one? It seems to be pure fine sea salt.

If the second salt I found isn’t right, could someone recommend me one or two?

I have used normal table salt just take what you have home , as long as it mixes well with water. Saline is destilled water with salt and i guess you know how that looks. They say do not use iodized.

When ive been in asia i just went to market and took a big sacket. So try what you got home first. Which one used is not that important as salt is added for killing bacterias only and i read that the ancient yogis used cold water and snorted it in. If true or not i dont know. So just try what you have got home and save your self some money.

After you rinsed your nose you keep head down block one nose and use high pressure and blow out from one nostril Like 20 times and then change nostril and lastly remove hand and do like in kapal bhati so that all water comes out which is blowing out from both nostrils without breathing in. Especially important in cold climates.

I recently bought a tub of neti salt, it’s pure salt without sodium bicarbonate.

Is that why it stings a little? The sinucleanse salt I used to use never stung.

The more salt the more sting. If it bothers you add less salt in the water. Check how much saline has in ratio and make the same.
