I’m new here
That will be different tomorrow.
Welcome on board.
i’m not exactly new, but I haven’t posted–or at least not for several years. My question has to do with my right foot. It has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and with tibial tendonitis, and I have been told that several other muscles that come down my calf and join at my heel are involved. This has been ongoing for, guip, several years but has intensified over the past few months. I have worked with a podiatrist, a wellness doctor, a physical therapist, a deep muscle massage therapist, and a yoga teacher/personal trainer. I now have very good orthodics and do a variety of stretching exercises as well as ice my foot several times a day. But…it still hurts. I love yoga classes but have recently refused to do balancing poses on the hurt foot. Moreover, I find that deep warriors where the hurt foot is turned on its side leads to pain after class. I have stopped doing wide, wide forward bends and have instead narrowed my stance. If my situation sounds familiar to anyone, I would appreciate any advice about poses, exercises, or anything else you might offer. I want to get back to a full yoga practice (iyengar, hatha, and anusara) and to taking walking/hiking trips with my husband. Thank you anyone who responds.
Hi flashflood42, I think you should post your question in a thread of it’s own or it might be overlooked. Don’t be shy.
Thanks. Which forum would I post to? I’m fairly hopeless at this…
Hello,
Thank you for all replies. Yesterday was my first teaching class for children. It was very new for me as I have just graduated from basic yoga teacher training. I need some advice about teaching kids or share experience. I teach for a school as extra curricular activity. In fact, I started my regular yoga practice 6-7 months ago. I know that I have a lot to do and to learn. Hope to share problem and experience with you all.
Hi flashflood42, looks like you’ve found a place on your own.
Hi cha cha,
as a fairly fresh teacher with probably not so much training, you should be interested in this thread. It’s not much about techniques, though, but more about the attitude of a good teacher.
Take good care of those kids, will you?
Thank you Quetzalcoatl. I will have a look. What I should do is a regular practice which I cannot do it as I wish due to my main job, starting at 7.30 and ending at 17.00.
I feel like I can be a good teachers but not so sure if I’m good at dealing with kids. Teaching adults-beginners and kids is so much different.
Hi Cha Cha, my name is Sandi (Seva to the spiritual community). I am completing my RYT with a specialty in Children’s Yoga this month, I have been traveling out of state one weekend a month for a year for training and I am excited to have it almost complete. I taught my first class a couple of weeks ago for 8 to 11 year olds and have since been offered a regular teaching position with a studio here. You are very correct in saying that teaching children is much different than teaching adults / beginners. There is a challenge right from the start to capture and hold the attention of your students and to engage them in the practice in ways that will keep them coming back until such time as yoga has become a routine part of their lives and they are able to use the tools they gain from their practice to help them deal with all that life has in store for them. For me, this path was a way to bring my two passions together… motherhood and yoga, and at the same time I am able to follow my true purpose in this life, which is to be a teacher of balance, or specifically, to educate children in ways that encourage a peaceful mind, a healthy body and a creative spirit. It is so exciting to me to realize that through my teachings, children today at five years of age can learn skills that I didn’t have until my life nearly fell apart.
If you would like to exchange stories and/or ideas or just chat about children’s yoga in general, please feel free to give me a shout, I am happy to help and love connecting with others who are working with children in this capacity.
Have a blessed day and good luck to you!
