New to Yoga- tips?

Hi everyone, I'm new to yoga. I've been practising Vinyasa Flow at my local studio for a month now.

I've noticed that I'm really inflexible, in that I can't touch my toes, can't straighten my legs and feel really painful doing the "pigeon" post.

I can't really do backbends, as well as shoulder stands.

I just feel so stiff and upset that I can't do many of the poses that others can do.

Can you give me some tips on how long I can expect some progress, and how long it will take for me to perhaps touch my toes or do downward dog with the feet flat? I'm feeling a bit lost on what I should be doing.

Just go to your edge and don't worry about it. Do you go everyday ? there are alternative poses to pigeon and others ask your teacher. How long depends how often you practice Yoga.

Been practising for 1 month - around 3-4 times a week!

In yoga, internal states are more interesting than postures.
