New

Hi Everyone!

My name is Reikihealer and I am not new to the practice of yoga but I am getting back into my practice after a long time away. I am a Reiki Master/Teacher and a practitioner of Aromatherapy. I found that when I was practicing yoga the first time around I felt more energized, peaceful, and overall better in all aspects of my life.

My biggest issue when it comes to yoga is I tend to start strong and then life gets in the way. I make excuses not to just keep going with my practice such as “I have no time” or “I am not in the mood to practice today”. The point being, they are excuses plain and simple. I cannot afford to go to the only studio in my community so I am doing things on my own which also contributes to the excuses that I tend to come up with. I love the Yoga Journal website and magazine and I do use them for inspiration but I find that I need the support that message boards can give when someone is on any type of journey. In many ways I am a beginner to yoga because I do not consistantly practice as of right now. I look forward to learning from everyone here.

Blessings!

Welcome! It’s a pleasure to have you here

Thank you David! I am wandering through the forums now and reading. I cannot wait to gain some wonderful insights.

Please check if you are caught up in the mechanics of Yoga exercises. Your turning point will be waiting for you in a perfect asana or concentrated breathing or whatever is your practice. It will engulf you suddenly in the form of joy that arises without reason and unannounced. In your pursuit of happiness there is nothing to compare with that joy which comes from deep down, with no price tag, no side-effects and no expiry date. That is Yoga’s hook.

Once you discover that, you will be automatically consistent and be ready for the hardships of serious Yoga sadhana. Good luck.

I am working on finding a beginner DVD and I think Jason Cranwell is the way to go. I found his stuff on the Yoga Journal website and it looks like a great place to start.
