Newb Question

I did my routine yesterday and afterward I had great flexibility. But the next day Im back to practically the same point when I began a (week or two ago). Is this normal or do I need to rest for a day or two? It seems Im not gaining any flexibilty . Im back to sqaure one. Thanks!

as long as you not loosing and sustaining your current flexibility it you are fine;)

There are a few ballerinas in my family. They tell me they stretch before even getting out of bed. Also a few light stretches before bed is part of their routine.
I would say what you are describing is normal. If it bothers you. Do a few stretches throughout the day.

-Wow, That, sounds so great… I wish we could have it too in our siblings.

Hey Friends,
This is Jason Smith here… Great to be Found this forum

make sure to drink lots of water and you should retain your flexibility more efficiently.

Also, it takes a while for the body to “warm” up. For instance, my forward bends get deeper as I flow through my practice. My initial one is quite stiff but it doesn’t mean that I have “lost” flexibility from the day before.

It is far more important to have appropriate flexibility than it is to have “great” flexibility. Contortionists have great flexibility, but not necessarily a more profound or available yoga practice as a result. It is simply contorting. And, of course, we know that asana (the physical slice of the larger Yoga pie) is about BOTH mobility and stability. Yet we rarely, if ever, read someone post “after my practice yesterday I was extremely stable!”.

Further, there is some research (though I cannot cite it at this moment) that indicates the body goes back to its original state after stretching…UNLESS the mind is placed in the doing. I suspect this is due to the mapping of neural pathways and breaking up of patterns (samskara) that comes from consciousness/awareness/mind in action - the thing that makes Yoga NOT gymnastics.
