Newbie in yoga

I want to loose weight and heard about that Yoga is very helpful for losing weight, so I decide to attend regular yoga classes from next week on. Now I’m looking for a Yoga suit, but I don’t know how to choose a good one. I just found 2 suits on the Internet. I 'm wondering that which style will be more convenient and suitable for doing Yoga. What do you think about them? Moreover, how about the prices? Will they be cheap? I never bought such a suit, so I don’t know which one would be better, can anyone advise me please?
Thanks in advance.

I don’t really think it matters what you wear - comfy and you can move easily. I usually wear some kind of jogging/exercise bottoms and t-shirt.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your practise of yoga sweetapple.

I personally don’t like anything with drawstrings, but that’s me. I feel it gets in the way.

As mentioned it really doesn’t matter what you wear, except that it is comfortable. Many teachers recommend loose fitting clothing. I do not. I have seen too many students stop a beautiful yoga sequence to adjust their shirt or pants. I prefer tighter clothing, especially the top. I like Athleta, Zobha or Eco Yoga Organic. Even Old Navy has pretty decent yoga wear.

And yes, tell us more about yourself!

My height is 165cm, and my weight is 61KG ( I think I am fat now:cry:), so I want to start doing yoga and to loose weight. But I know very little about yoga at the moment, just know that it is an effective way to loose weight, so I want to keep myself fit through some yoga classes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Given your height and weight, I would say you are not fat by any means. It’s truly sad how society has skewed our personal views of ourselves.
What you may be dissatisfied with I"m guessing is your general level of fitness. Those of us who exercise little have some extra squishies (yes, squishies! It’s human to be squishy!) and we just need to tone and firm it up, which comes with good health.
Make sure you eat healthy and be active.
And learn what you can about yoga. Take some classes with a good teacher, and keep an open mind, you will find that yoga is very good for the soul/spirit as well.

Yoga is not a weight-loss system.
A weight-loss system is maintaining a certain activity level and eating appropriately for that level, the body type, and life circumstances. So clearly this is available to all without one iota of Yoga.

That having been said, there are two other points.
The first is that asana practice IS an activity and the second is that through a robust Yoga practice (one including more than postures and breath) the student can be supported by the practice and examine/address habitual patterns - including but not limited to eating.

I wouldn’t count on yoga for weight loss, but I must admit that I pay a lot more attention to what I eat when I practice regularly. I already eat well, but somehow with yoga I get a lot more focused on the quality of the food I fuel myself with. While I don’t need to lose weight, I do feel better.
Try being more mindful of the nutritional content of what you eat, that alone may make a difference.
The yoga will tone you up and make you more flexible, give you better posture.
You may also notice an increase in your energy level. That may compel you to do other things for weight loss, like cardio and weights.
Good luck.

Yoga will definitely increase your metabolism.

Asana may increase your metabolism. But so will 75 jumping jacks in a sauna. And the latter is far more efficient at burning calories than the former - though ill-advised for those who value their cardio-vascular well being.

Hi sweetapple. I love your name!! If you want to loose weight, I’d definitely include cardio everyday like jogging, hill walks, kettlebell swings etc, and a little strength training. Also keep your diet clean and have plenty of vegetables and water. Yoga should be a PART of your weight loss program, but definitely not the focus. Yoga is a very inefficient way of loosing weight and, in fact, I couldn’t even get into shape when I was doing Yoga alone. I was basically fat with good posture lol
