Nirodha?

I am reading Four Chapters of Freedom, commentary on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras,

it is said, when the 3 gunas are completely absent, we are in Nirodha,
now this sounds like the mind is gone, and there is no thinking
but it is described that “not thinking” is a feature of Tamas,

is there thinking in the Sattvic guna ? if all gunas are gone it seems like one would not have a “mind” and would not be thinking at all,

When all the vrittis in the citta became silent, the mind still exists, but it is free of movement caused by the conditions in the outside world.
It doesn`t mean not to think, but another form of thinking.
May be you could call it free floating mind which is able to discover the endless wide unlimited space and silence inside this creation.
No thinking is connected to tamas cause for example if you drink a bottle of whiskey the mind is not thinking and dull.
Nirodha means a tremdously open and centered mind.

is samadhi characterized by relaxation
as in a conscious sleep, where you are still aware ,

or is it still in a wide awake state of mine, as in, tremendous clarity ?

I would say both of it and far more.
Separation ends, fragmentation ends.
Oneness with the vast unlimited space and silence of the creation is experienced.
And still all words born out of the conditioned mind will not be able to describe samadhi.
One must expierence it to realy understand what it`s all about samadhi.
