So last night I had the oddest feeling.
Towards the end of the class the teacher asked us to pull our mats to the wall and prepare for a forearm stand practice.
I have been able to do this against a wall and also move away and balance. For awhile now.
After several minutes I came down and looked around. Out of 15 others in the class I was the only one who could come even close to this inversion.
I went up again a few times, but soon began to feel like I was showing off my ability. This was not my intent. I enjoy inversions and so the more practice the better.
This is the most advanced class at my studio so don’t feel I can move up to anything.
Is this a weird feeling? I am not a show off nor do I want to discourage anyone from doing anything.
Maybe now is the time you need to concentrate more on pranayama, meditation and awareness of your mind. Asanas is great for stability of the body and health, but to advance in bodypostures is not the goal.
It is not showing off if you are are just doing your practice and focusing on that and not having any intention of showing off…just continue to work at your own pace and try not to concern yourself with the others in the class.
Seeing others do asanas that I struggle with can be inspiring and usually it is clear when someone is showing off and when someone is just practicing honestly.
Enjoy your forearm stand!
well, the universe is balanced again. I took a class from a new instructor and there were some poses I was quite ignorant of. Had to be explained to me a few times . sure not showing off now.
