Oil Pulling

Anyone try this? It’s okay, you can find much on it on the web. You swish some sort of edible oil, olive, coconut, etc. around in your mouth for according to some sources up to 20 minutes. I think it works.

Is it Ayurvedic type of medicine? I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this but seeing some other threads, thought it might fit in.

My wife who is an Ayurvedic counselor does this w/coconut oil each day for teeth and gums. I can’t stomach the coconut oil.

Have done it and like Dave my SO has been doing in daily, along with sole.
She swears by it. I found the sole helpful but didn’t particularly get much from the pulling. Perhaps a longer trial would be more conclusive for me - and you.

It’s been helpful to me. I’m just not here to be boasting and bragging about my personal life. It’s been helpful to me but I just wanted to hear others views in case they might have something new to say.

Thank you InnerAthlete for your response.

Really looking forward to Inner Athletes and other’s take on this.

Please chime in.

I’ve tried it and at the least it is an interesting discipline.

I’m wondering if it might be considered a modern kriyas.

Ive been doing it for a couple years now on and off. I buy raw organic sesame oil. My teeth and gums get stronger. They feel cleaner even after eating. I have a gap near the back of my teeth that a piece of gum swells up if not clean, but when i’m practicing pulling this never happens. So yes I would encourage you to start doing it. Your overall oral and full body health will benefit.

I started to do this some weeks ago. First I tried out sesame oil as I read that is the traditional oil recommended in Ayurveda. But I nearly vomited, just couldnt do it. Right now I do it daily in the morning with organic coconut oil - and this I love!
If I forget it once in a while, I miss it later in the day, it really became part of my daily routine. I feel like my teeth got much more clean and white, and also in general I have the strong feeling it helps me (although as I only do it some weeks, its just a feeling so far).

But I also have a question: Would you recommend doing it only 2-3 minutes or 20 minutes? Online I read on one hand 20 minutes as this is the time it needs to detox the body - but others say only 2-3 minutes because in other case the toxins in the oil would go back into the body if the oil stays too long in the mouth. Any recommendations what to prefer?
