Origin of Mudras?

Would you be willing to share your knowledge of the origin of mudras (even the word “mudra”)?

I’m doing some research in this area and am open to new knowledge …

Thank you so much, oak333, for that link. I took some time and have read quite a bit of the contents. I thought I’d have a brief respite from reading it to express my appreciation.

Nowhere, though, does it address the origin and meaning of word “mudra”.

That’s an essential aspect of my research.

Much of what I’ve read on this website covers what I already knew (however, there are nuggets tucked in here and there that are new and joyful discoveries for me; that’s why I’m continuing to read it).

Also, everywhere I’ve looked in my past research says that the origin of mudras is unknown / unexplained (including in the content on the website link from oak333 as far as I can see). I need to get to the root of it and find the earliest record of mudras.

Any suggestions, anyone?
