Our deepest fears

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?"
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God; your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
(Marianne Williamson, quoted by Nelson Mandella in his inaugural speech)

Good thing some people fear their powerful nature and remain ignorant of it, because their Ego’s would play havoc with such power.

Fear keeps us from the sunlight of the spirit.

I really do not understand the meaning of it; never known somebody who feared he was too powerful.

Could you, please, explain ?

oak333, perhaps you should be directing this question to the author, Marianne Willamson?

Have you really never observed someone, or witnessed your own self, not living fully in your own power? Or lacking the courage to BE in the world wholly? For every person I have know, I have also know this for them at some point, and in some way.

Pandara – I agree. But elsewhere within the quote (You are a child of God. . . serve the world) is an implication that the future one keeps from oneself is a calling of goodness as well as greatness.

yeah. i get it. our deepest fear.
