Outline Structure for 1 hour Yoga class

Im interested in how people structure (not in detail) there yoga classes. I know how I do mine. But it would be interesting to see if there is much variation, im sure there will be.

For example the class I go to is something like;

  1. Gentle joint movements
  2. Warm up and preparation
  3. Sequence of peak postures
  4. Inversions
  5. Relaxation

So I guess as a teacher what do you do? and as a student what do you perceive about your own classes?

The structure of the class depends on the intention of it and students attending it (and they are interrelated, of course).

Generally speaking the first part of class is used to bring students into their bodies. Call this grounding or centering.

A series of seated postures follows to prepare or open the body for the asana practice to come.

If the class to come warrants more heat in the body then Surya Namaskar would be next.

Standing poses, inversions, twists, and backbends come next in the “general” practice. This is followed by savasana.

Interesing. thanks.
