My right leg rotates outward constantly. The natural placement of my feet is (left foot) 12, (right foot) 2:30. This mis alignment, I feel, is affecting my overall body. Is there certain asanas I could be focusing on to improve this? I should also mention that I have Parkinson’s as that might be a factor as well. I am 34.
Tucker,
As with many things Yoga, it depends. And as you yourself mention, Parkinson’s may be at play as well. Therapeutic issues mandate therapeutic approach and that means contact hours between teacher and student.
That having been said, it should be determined whether your external rotation is coming from the hip or whether it is coming from the ankle (read: somewhere other than the hip). If it is in the hip or thigh bone we know the femur is either strongly externally rotated by 6 deep lateral rotators (too much tension) or that it is not being brought back toward 12:00 by the secondary internal rotators (not enough tension). Typically it is the first of these - chronically tight external rotators. This assumes there’s no structural damage, of course.
We use a beginner’s hip opening series to work the complex of the hips and assess them for balance. Then the series is adjusted to suit the student so that it moves them toward balance, what you refer to as “12:00”.
