Pacemaker and yoga

Last year I had a heart valve replaced as well as a pacemaker put in…

I’ve been told that I have to watch what poses I do, but no one I talk to seems to know what to avoid… does anyone have experience with those of us who have these liabilities?

Thanks ahead of time… Debra

If both valve and pacemaker are working well, why shouldn’t you lead a normal life? Pacemakers are pretty robust. The only thing to watch is going from a prolonged period on the floor, i.e. sitting poses, to standing up. A lot of people without pacemakers become dizzy here and there’s a chance that your heart rate won’t rise quickly enough to compensate, depending on what sort of unit you have implanted. If you’re concerned about it, why not send a letter to your cardiologist?
