Pain in front of ankle during Trikonasana

I’ve been doing yoga classes for a little over 6 months and while I have lots of areas of tension in my body that makes certain positions difficult I don’t ever really feel pain.

However when doing Trikonasana with my right leg in front I always feel pain in the front of my ankle (I believe it to be in the superior extensor retinaculum). It feels like a slight burning sensation when I am in the pose, however I do not have this problem when I change sides. I don’t believe I have ever injured this part so could this be due to tension there and I just need to be less “aggresive” in the posture?

Thanks in advance

I have stiffness there as well padmasana is best for releasing that but then one must be able to sit with straight leg, take the other against the base and touch knee on ground without force then one can do it fully without injuries. If you cant do that i suggest vajra asana i.e when doing mantras if you do that. as well as folding down body from that pose and third variation is lying down with one feet back and the other straight. Dont know the names. Add these to your existing routine. If you need further explanation dont hesitate to ask. The padmaasana will remove it the other will ease it a little bit but if you force padmasana you surely will injure your self so please dont rush it.

Not enough information.

Are you right handed?

Does the pain occur before you tip the pelvis and come down into the pose?

Are you hyper mobile?

Do you have any pre-existing knee or hip issues, especially on the right side?

Are your toes white during trikonasana?
