Pearls of science

‎"Hydrogen is a light, odourless gas, which, given enough time, turns into people."

Edward R. Harrison, Cosmologist

What do you take from that quote?

My personal interpretation in the context of a yoga forum is that science, fact and logical reasoning, and spirituality are one and the same. I actually have a quote from some braindead loser (sarcasm) stuck on the wall that seems relevent to this topic:

Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind
Of course, I’m using religion and spirituallity interchangeably. I believe we could also supstitute the word ‘faith’ without making this incorrect.

To better summarise all of this, what you quoted is fact and similar could be said of litterally anything. However I believe this quote can be read as “poetry” which itself cannot exist without being spiritual. So yeah, science + spirituality.

Hi Aaron,
Well, first thing I got from this quote was 10 min of healthy laughter  Even now I’m still laughing writing this  I think I find it so funny because it shows an obviously true scientific observation which gives absolutely no real knowledge about the world.

But if I would have to justify posting that on yoga forum… Hm… Maybe to cause temporary release of abdominal muscles before practice or at least little stretch of facial muscles?

Agree, we are intelligent human beings and we need to incorporate science and classic yoga. Maybe even drop or modify some yogic staff. ( For example, I wont wipe my genitals with caw manure ash as advised in Hatha Yoga Pradipika:)

Do not agree!!! Unfortunately, Spirituality and religion is not the same. Religion is a tool to frighten people and to take their freedom and replace it by dogmas. And spirituality is a freedom of spirit, not strict following by the rules.
Very nice movie “The Island” the russians have made about it.

Than, perhaps these lines represent your own prejudices brought to surface by the cathartic effect of quality art.

In time you might find that religion is more than what you make it here to be. I’ll give you that without a luciferic rebellion few can free themselves from certain conditionings. Your last sentence is a clear example of that. You must be young … friend.

Well, may be :)) But I wanted to say that religion and spirituality can not be used interchangeably all the times. Religions people are not always spiritual. :frowning: and good people…
My personal view that many times religion can take someone from the darkness to the light…as well as religion is just a tool to keep people organized and scared…which is still not so bad.

Well said. I think there is time in life when you just have to let go and stop blaming religion/tradition. Its the people hearts where you should look for answers why sometimes religion/tradition brings light and kindness and why at times it brings violence.
