Perfect practice or a workout

I am in montreal and I have been practicing at a very small studio with a great group of rotating teachers all take time to make sure the postures are correct or as best as can be obtained .it is vinyasa flow yoga I like it very much . Went to the ymca ( power yoga )tonight for a change ,very big class ,in fact maybe the most I have ever practiced with indoors ,a good workout but things seemed odd to me no form or very little example ,warrior 1&2 with bent back leg and heel up like in a lunge and not much time spent there, it was like a yoga and p.e. class mixed together a good workout but I missed the art of striving for perfection aspect .
What does collective think of such things ? Important or not ? The large crowd seemed very happy imho
Cheers

Depends on the context.
Poses are never perfected. We are always moving toward the full expression of the pose.
But you bring up an interesting issue and that is the holding of yoga versus the enjoyment of the students.

Yoga will grow and change. It is what has kept it alive for millennia. How it is gorwing and whom is holding it in what way(s) is the real question.

It is absolutely critical that those coming to Yoga (or in this case asana) enjoy the practice. Often they are raw beginners or have no previous knowledge of the practice other than a yogurt commercial on the television.

I’m delighted to hear the group was happy but don’t really know what they received. Perhaps reframe the question so it is “what class and teachings are right for me?”. Was this class suitable for you?

I have always viewed yoga as art for some reason that means something to me . If I were viewing at as an atheltic endeavor then it would be great .
Thanks I.A. for making me think deeper about it
Cheers
