Dear Mukunda,
I have had pains in right hip and upper leg, especially at night, and after seeing a doctor he said it’s probably Periathropathia, an inflammation of the tissues/soft parts arount the hip, psoas and tensor facia lata. During and after our yoga week in Weggis I was very motivated (thanks again for that inspiration!) and practiced yoga every day: warrior vinyasa and sundbird in the morning plus either JFS or my personal yoga programm which is focusing on right hip, and palm tree vinyasa in the evening. Could that have been too much? Could you recommend some special yoga asanas/vinyasa or should I take a “break”? I did receive some medicine against the inflammation for about 20 days and a prescription for physiotherapie. But I’d prefer Yoga …
Thank you in advance. Namaste.
I suspect the poses you chose are too much for yuo. When there is tissue inflammation, it is best to avoid asanas because the sensations of stretching will increase pitta tending to drive up the inflammation. If you do vinyasa style of motions where you do not stretch but simply focus on mobilizing the joints then this will tend to balance vata and thus create sattvic state. For that the safest is my Joint Freeing Series, described in my book Structural Yoga Therapy. The palm tree vinyasa that i gave is good choice of the vinyasas i gave. namaste mukunda
