Please help me

Hi every one

I have a very stressful life and I am despiratly looking for peace,
I hope Yoga can help me, would you please let me know what is the best way to start and what are the most useful books/DVDs … for some one like me?

Hello Omid,

Yoga may in fact be a tool you use to help yourself. That is entirely possible. Obviously I’d recommend a teacher over books and DVDs. There are always ways to study yoga with a teacher even in difficult economic times.

If you must have a book I find Yoga: The Path to Holistic Health by BKS Iyengar to be very sound. However my teacher, Aadil Palkhivala, has also written a book called Fire of Love. It is easy to read and the words are powerful. Both of these books, in slightly different ways, would lend themselves foundationally to the beginning of your yoga practice.

If you must have a DVD then I recommend Patricia Walden’s beginner’s series. It will facilitate foundation in your practice that will last you a life time.

Ultimately some life changes may be warranted in order to bring you back to balance. When we continue to do what we are doing we continue to get what we are getting. Since you have not been specific nor have you shared much of yourself with us here it is difficult to elaborate.

Yoga can indeed help you to create a life with less stress and more peace. However, this is not where you should start. What you need is a good sat down with yourself and to evaluate your life and see what other meassures you can take to reduce the physical, mental and emotional aspects that cause you to stress. Then, once you have reduced the impact of the these on your life, start to add yoga by serching for a good teacher who can gradually lead you to the inner peace so many need and want.

Welcome to the forum. I find that a proper satvik diet is very beneficial to my state of mind.

That means, no meat, fish, eggs, onion, garlic, coffee, tea, chocolate and mushrooms.

Not that I always follow this, but when I do, it makes all the difference.
