Poor posture lower cross syndrome

Hi all,
I am 33 years old and have suffered from lower cross syndrome since my early 20.s
This is characterised by an anterior tilted pelvis giving the appearance of a pot belly and a forward head position with rounded shoulders.
this means that I have loose abdominals inside and out, tight psoas, weak hamstrings and glutes.
Each muscle either needs to be stretched or tightened and strengthened.
please can someone recommend exercises to do or at least point me to someone that can help. It is really getting me down and destroying my confidence let alone causing breathing difficulties.

Hi, Naz! You ask this question on a yoga forum, so it sounds like you’d like to try yoga to address your ailment. I highly recommend, since you have a specific ailment, that you find a Yoga Therapist. It could also be that whoever told you the words ‘lower cross syndrome’,
‘anterior tilt’, and ‘psoas’ will also have some exercises to prescribe.
Several folks on the forum have professional and educational networks that could help you find a suitable person; where are you, and how far from there could you travel? That will help them know how to respond.

Hello Ahmir,

I’ve read your posts here on the forum. There are three things I’d like to share with you.

When we have built up something (negative patterns) in our body and done so over many years it takes time, effort, and patience to change it. In the yoga context the first two of the five requirements for a yoga student must be present and they are:

  • urge to grow
  • willingness to change

I find that naming things - this syndrome or that one - is only helpful for some students. For others it becomes consuming and distracting and labeling, taking them into a mental state which is not very fertile for transformation. But I do understand what you are describing anatomically and it can be worked with.

That work, presuming the person has chosen a yoga pathway, can be accomplished by working directly with a highly skilled, well trained, therapeutically oriented yoga teacher. They are hard to find but it’s easier to point you if I know where on the Globe you are standing.

hi,
sorry for the delay.

I live in London UK.
I have had rolfing and osteopathy done. These treatments were very expensive but to no result. I am really hesitant in trusting anyone now. The situation is really getting me down.
