Philip,
I do not know the “wrist/arm release” your are referring to. Again, since it is not outlined an intelligent comment on it will not be forthcoming.
Generally speaking, in Purna Yoga, when a student has an “itis” rest is what is recommended (rather than asana). At that point the practice becomes one of providing the body those things it needs to do its own healing - proper rest, proper nutrition, meditation, pranayama, shifts in lifestyle etcetera.
What must be kept in mind is that we bring these conditions into our path in one way or another and without a willingness to listen and heed the messages from the body, those messages will likely get louder. Relative to health, loud messages frequently equal pain or dis-ease. My point is that the person who has wrist issues from 8-hours of computer work and is unwilling to make a change…well it is very difficult to fight it off with yoga, meds, or a magic wand. Keep doing what we’re doing we’ll keep getting what were getting.
As it specifically relates to asana I would obviously avoid Chaturanga Dandasana, Urdhva and Adho Mukha Svanasana, Bhujangasana, Vasisthasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana, Adho Mukha Vrksasana, Pincha Mayurasana, Phlankasana, Bakasana, etcetera.
