Post by: Peteryogaz - Thread: Protein shakes and morning yoga practice

Alix has reported a post.

Reason:

OK, I realize this is an old post but I need to ask if we are tolerating this sort of language and attitude here now? I can’t believe he called someone a prick and it stayed on the boards. Guidance please?

Well the protein shake is not to aid my practice in any manner, it’s simply because I always drink a protein shake when I wake up and because going to the gym constantly makes my muscles seemingly always sore and it feels nice to drink a protein shake furthermore you’re seemingly a condescending prick because even though I understand your point that the protein should consumed within 45 minutes of working, in order to consume aprox 200 grams of protein a day which is what is recommend for a person of my size to continously gain muscle I have to drink shakes because it would be very difficult and costly for me to eat that much meat/alternatives,does that make sense to you?

I ridicule your notion that getting muscular and yoga have little in common. Im 19 turning 20 very soon and I have never stretched im my life Ive also been weight training on an off for the last 3 years with the last 4 months being the most intense workouts and the fewest days off. In the last 2 weeks I started doing yoga I haven’t skipped a day doing it either and I’ve already noticed tremendous benefits in my weight training including quicker recover time which alone quashes your notion but it also allows me to increase my range of motion in all exercises such as squats, shoulder press and bench press. Besides that I also enjoy all the other benefits of yoga which dont relate to weight trainging so there is no reason why I shouldnt do both. Also both yoga and working out reduce stress so theoretically im more zen then you eh gord?

just one more thing… a majority of the professional UFC fighters (such as GSP) do yoga and strength training because it allows them execute moves that require alot of flexibility such as high head kicks and add power to it. what do you have to say to that?

our members got to it before we did, otherwise it would have been scrubbed. considering others had already addressed it, i chose to bust his chops on the boards so that everyone knew that this was not ok.

for some context: this happened while it just mary and me moderating. willie had not come on yet.

Just to add to this, Nichole, that was a beautiful post.

I just want to know if we are to deal with these things on the boards in this manner? I am perfectly willing to do so. My first inclination would have been to either edit his post (leaving a note visible about profanity and being respectful to others) or to yank it entirely.

Do you think we ought to continue as you have Nichole? I think that was beautifully done and I think I can follow in your steps.

Dang you’re fast! And please don’t think I was criticizing, I am really just looking for direction. That does explain things nicely. So best to scrub if possible then?

of course not, i know your voice well!

overall, this is really situational for me. look what happened here, gordon spoke to it, other members spoke to, other members played peace maker, i busted his chops and then supported him. he is not posting these days, but he continues to logon and read his thread and other threads too. i think this worked out really well.

other times, this won’t be the case.

our team needs to talk about it all: using restraint and being firm too, scrubbing or deleting.

I myself was so impressed with the community pig-pile before I encountered the post that I didn’t even think to interfere with it. If I am the first to handle something like that now (especially after seeing some techniques recently) I’d soft delete it with “pending moderation” as the reason why, so we could circle in on it.

Will that work?

I think in the situation as Nichole describes her action was the correct way to go.

Had the Mods seen it before anyone else had chimed in I think the actions would have been different. I like your approach Techne. I think I would have: 1. Hit report post so we would have a place to discuss it.
2. Soft deleted or moved it to Quarantine and PMed the user that name calling and profanity are not respectful and not tolerated here.
3. Discussed with everyone whether they felt further action was necessary. In this case it appears not. Which is wonderful.

Thanks all for chiming in and letting me figure out what level of moderation is needed here.
