By now many of you have seen the CNN report on Dahn Yoga and the lawsuit against them. If these accusations are true then this is profoundly disturbing. Accusations: working people to exhaustion, sexual exploitation and asking adherents to take out huge loans and turn the money over to Ilchi Lee. I have always had less confidence in Yoga teachers who seem more interested in profit than in spirituality. Let’s face it -they exist. Discuss.

i think this is a great discussion thread that fits well in the general forum. this story is currently all over the news, if you are looking for yoga in the news and on internet. both sides of the lawsuit are well represented and each side is making statements.

techne, i don’t understand your want to close this thread. i am missing something that you are seeing. also, i don’t understand your reference to the other “member” and “Daily Yoga.”

yes, i see the nod to the other discussion thread. thank you for bring that back into the conversation.

for me, these threads vary greatly. in my thinking, this current thread is a great discussion thread for the following reasons:
• scott is not the one bringing the lawsuit • he is asking for discussion here and began the conversation with his own thoughts • his language is thoughtful and non-condemning, [I]“If these [U]accusations[/U] are true…” [/I]• he quotes his source that he is referencing as CNN and again is careful to list accusations as exactly that, accusations. • both sides are represented in the system and press • both are making statements

are you really glad to hear that i think it’s different? i don’t mean to question the genuineness of your statement, but i am feeling out of touch with you.

it is seems to me, that since my return, my lean on moderation has not been totally inline with what you and alix seem to both be in agreement on. i feel ok with this, like there will likely be some flux here on occasion even though for the 3 of us it has been rare imo. Is it feeling differently for you? besides my sincere gratitude for them, your toes are very precious to me! i don’t want step on them. i don’t mean to appear to be directive toward you or alix in your carrying out of things, i am simply offering my thoughts and perspective on the topics at hand. i know before, with david’s take over of the forum, there was some confusion and what a moderator was supposed to do after he said that he disagreed with an action. to be clear for me, 9 times of 10, i am ok with either of you going ahead as you were, but 10 of 10 times, i would like to share my thought on it too.

are we cool? is there more that we should have out between us?

For my part Nichole, I don’t think you have stepped on any toes. I think perhaps my own personal feeling is that less moderation is often more. In trying to foster a community we need to only moderate when called for. Other than the usual housekeeping items I mean.

I think it is a good thing there are 3 of us so that we can bounce things around. Odd numbers mean that there is usually a majority consensus somewhere down the line.

As regards both this particular thread and the other, I understand why you wished to close the one thread, but to me they do not seem very different. If it had been solely my decision I would have left both alone and watched them carefully as they developed. I respect the way you handled that one thread though. If it bothered you so much, likely it was bothersome to someone else as well. Its important that no matter WHAT direction we end up going that we support one another in public.

Yes, I am genuinely glad that this is a different kind of thread. My (over)reaction to want to close this thread was based on the memory that I didn’t have this reaction about the first one, and that was out of line with how you wanted things on the forums.

I promise not to use sarcasm on the forums without fronting it with some sort of parenthetical comment or subject line that states this explicitly. (That’s been my habit anyway.)

(as gently as possible:) Nichole, you’re the administrator. You have the final call and provide direction. This does not constitute toe-stepping because this is leadership a team needs.

Its good for us all that we bounce ideas around with each other. I, myself, would appreciate any more direction either of you can offer about times when I take action that I should have consulted about first. This has persistently been a difficulty for me, not just on the forums, and I look forward to your (plural) help in pushing me in a better direction.
