Pragmatic Yoga Movement[/B]
Pragmatic Yoga Movement is a free of charge online world community consisting of yoga practitioners, teachers and enthusiasts. Our mission is aimed at bringing pragmatical view into the age old practice of yoga be it in any form or shape. We hope that this honest, open-minded and analytical approach brings freshness into the world culture of yoga which often is hindered, sometimes even shrouded, by various uninvestigated ideas. We wish to truly study and investigate what yoga is and not merely take granted whatever we have heard or read about it from others, even from high authority. This, we wish to do in good spirit of constructive criticism. Please understand that your beliefs and views may be challenged here.
Pragmatic Yoga Movement, founded by Baba and the teachers of the Samadhi Path, has been influenced by the Pragmatic Dharma which is a collective of buddhist meditation teachers. We feel that the Pragmatic Dharma has done so much good in their field that we wanted to do, or at least try, the same in the field of yoga.
We are interested in:
- how various practices actually work
- what happens when these methods are applied and
- what are the fruits of doing them
We favor:
- pragmatism over dogmatism: what works is the key
- diligent practice over blind faith: this place is about doing it and understanding for yourself
- openness regarding what the techniques may lead to and how these relate to the overall picture of yogic spirituality
- personal responsibility
- a lack of taboos surrounding talking about attainments
- the assumption that the various aspects of yogic and meditative development can be mastered in this life
- the spirit of mutual, supportive adventurers on the path rather than rigid student-teacher relationships
- and the notion that the collective wisdom of a group of strong practitioners at various stages and from various traditions and backgrounds is often better than following one guru-type.
Be honest about what you know and speak openly. Take advantage of this opportunity to discuss your yoga path and practice with others who are as well committed. As you keep your own mind and heart open for new ideas, you may find that this pragmatic approach to yoga can be truly valuable to yourself and others. Contribute for the common good, so that yoga may really flourish and be passed onto to future generations without any extra baggage.
