Pranayam and Yoga after head injury

Namaste,

I had a bike accident a 2 months back. Just shoulder injury and bump in head.

I took allopathy medicine for few weeks . Then started with pranayam again and not asana as shoulder movement was bit of painful

I feel a bit dizzy when i tilt my head left or suddenly up. I am 32 , with no cervical issues. My Xray and CT scan reports are normal too.

Can you help me with asana that will help me with dizziness and gain strength of my shoulder. I do brhamri , kapal bhanti anulom vilom, ujjayi and 3 bandhas daily. I used to do 10 suryanamaskar and few stomach area related asana before the accident

Namaste,

If you’re seeking to utilize yoga in a therapeutic fashion as support for your body’s own innate healing then I’d suggest finding a skilled teacher with whom you can work with directly.

No one here is qualified to provide medical advice and nothing offered on the site, no matter how sound should be perceived as such. That having been said, were it me having this experience I’d certainly seek chiropractic treatment and discontinue the more “stimulating” pranayama (kapalabhati and Viloma II).

As for surya namaskar I would continue the classical version but slow the pace down considerably and remain in each of the poses for a full breath and a half, then only do two rounds, adding a round every few days as appropriate.

With regard to the shoulder this needs to be seen to be assessed. However if it were me I’d not strengthen anything at all that wasn’t aligned first. To do so would be shear folly and ultimately reinforce unwholesome patterns. Of note is that different sorts of shoulder issues are dealt with in different ways - protocols vary based on variables. Ergo it’s impossible to effectively provide a functional program based only on guessing.

Thank you so much !! I will consult a teacher and Ayurveda practitioner first !!

Also your insight on sun salutation is what only a able teacher can give !!

Sincere Regards

You’re welcome.
