Pranayama problem

Hello, I have a problem I don’t know how to solve. I recently started doing alternative nostril breathing, but these kind of pranayamas where you have to touch the nose and close a nostril cause my sinuses to closes.

Does anyone know how I can keep my sinuses open? It completely prevents me from doing certain pranayamas.

Thanks

I guess its getting cold there, did you try netipot?

It’s not related to the temperature, my nose is like this all the time. I do use a neti pot, but it doesn’t really open anything, water just drips a drop every second or two out of the other nostril.

My nose cannot take much air through it at all, it’s very closed up.

Did you try catheter if thats correct spelled and insert from nose and pull out from throat?

Is it a medical problem? Some disease like?

If you do surya namaskara will it then open?

Usually this is a nutritional issue.
Would you mind outlining your current diet?

Sounds liek a deviated septum to me. I had to have surgery a few years back gto address a siimilar problem.

check out the miracle of neti with your p? no extra salt is needed

Or you could do the practise mentally without physically closing the nostrils.

surya namaskara doesn’t help. Although I can breathe much better through my nose if I stand in the Three Circle qigong stance, after at least five minutes.

I’ve never tried to use a catheter, I’ve never even heard of that, I’ll look into it though.

It could be a medical problem, I would have to assume it is. I wasn’t born with breathing difficulty through my nose.

That could be true, I have quite a ridiculous a diet. I eat cereal, sandwitches (cheese, peanut butter), beans and pasta. And hemp protein shakes in fruit smoothies.

I had my nose broke several years ago, so this is very likely in my opinion. I will speak to my doctor about this, hopefully I can get it on the NHS.

I don’t quite know what you mean, but I do use a neti pot every day before my yoga practise.

Wow, is that really a viable alternative? I will definitely be doing that for the time being then until my nose is sorted.

Fourteen day experiment.
Eliminate dairy products and reduce “white” carbohydrates (white rice, potatoes, pasta).
If you can breathe more freely on the 14th day, you have found your culprits.

Is white bread a white carbohydrate too? If it is does that make brown bread OK?

Yes, and maybe.

Best to reduce the consumption of bread, period. However for this particular issue IF you are going to eliminate the other things mentioned (dairy products and white carbs) then some bread now and then isn’t going to interfere. It’s not “good” for you but it’s not likely to be the center of the Universe as it relates to mucous and congestion.

The wisest approach appears to be addressing the issue from its source rather than continuing the source behavior and adding another thing to the day to try and counter it.
