MYself and three others are practicing anulom/vilom pranayama for the last one and half years. We are doing 9 rounds each . After that we are doing Bhramari which is also of 9 rounds . Now we wish to extend our pranayama exercises for 18 rounds each. Can we do that.
We are doing breathing in 4:8 ratio. shall we continue the same ratio. less inhalation and more exhalation. Please advise.
I cannot understand what you mean by 9 Rounds each. What I know from my Personal Knowledge is you should do Anulom Vilom for 10 Mins Non stop in the beginning and then increase it to 20 mins with practice and do it at least twice at a stretch alternating with Kapal Bhati for 10 Mins Non stop in the beginning and then increase it to 20 mins with practice.
Bhramri and Udgeet are enough for 5 times only.
Hello Tatvamasi,
Are you doing anuloma viloma with retention? That would be at a ratio of 4:8 with a 16 count retention?
Also, 9 or 10 rounds are plenty. As you progress, slow down, change the ratio to 6:12 with a 24 count retention, always maintaining the 1:2:4 ratio. No need to increase the rounds. This change in your count will take you to about 15-20 minutes, or so, for 9 or 10 rounds.
Also, I encourage you to practice pranayama only with a daily hatha practice.
Peace,
siva
9 rounds means breathing through left nostril exhale through right nostril and again breathing in with right nostrill and exhaling through left nostril. I think this is one round. like wise we do 9 rounds. We are not doing retension. we do plain anulom and vilom and brhamari. As you said well stick to 10 mts to 20 mts duration .Thank you very much
