Meditation

First thing to understand about meditation or Kundalini Yoga is what it is not than what it is. It is not a magic and not a belief or religion. It is a simple technology consists of easy techniques. This technique uses what we have for example mind, sense and body to create a communication between you and your mind and mind and body as well.

Meditation is simply a time to connect with breath and time to reestablish the rhythm of the body. Meditation is all about being yourself and it?s all about YOU and YOU. To clean our body, we daily take shower, a daily meditation is the way to clean the mind and empower the soul to route the energy in the perfect way. Meditation helps us to avoid mistakes, stay healthy and become more prayerful and kind.

Where should I do it?

For meditation, the most important thing is peace and silence, a place which is undisturbed. The preferred place is neither too hot nor too cold. Place where we can find fresh air and purity of nature. Stiff people should place a pillow which is 4-6 inches thick under the buttocks to relieve the pressure on lower spine rest most of the people prefer wool or cotton blanket to sit on. Some people, sometimes, can?t sit cross legged, they can use chair as well but the condition is, weight of the body should be distributed equally on both the legs. The purpose is to ensure that the spine is erect and reasonable straight.

When and for how long do I do it?

It?s all up to us. It can be done any time when we are ready to try and feeling alert. Early morning hours, between 4 and 8 am which are called as the ambrosial hours as well are usually preferred by the experienced meditators. As it is the best time, when no one is around and very less chances to get disturbed or distracted. Some people like to meditate before bed to clear all the worries and tensions of the day to have sound sleep. It?s not a best idea to meditate after a big meal as all the blood of the body will be in the stomach and brain will have very less. Time to mediate varies with the techniques, anywhere from 3 minutes to 2 and half hours.

Meditation has 2 basic components

  1. Pranayama
  2. Mantra

In my next 2 posts I will discuss about both this.
