Pranic breathing - filling the top 1/3rd of your lungs without moving chest?

So I am reading Your Hands Can Heal You by Master Stephen Co and he speaks about pranic breathing. It’s driving me crazy because I can’t make sense of one of the things he talks about. He says that pranic breathing should be performed by filling first the top 1/3rd of your lungs, then the middle part of the lungs and then the bottom third WITHOUT moving your chest, just abdominally. Well, if I inflate my whole abdomen I can still breath in a lot of air through expanding my chest so am I inhaling in a different organ then the lungs or what? I am pretty sure that the top part of the lungs is behind the chest-cage so how do I inflate it without moving my chest?? I just don’t get it, I’ve been thinking about it for days lol. Does he mean only the part of the lungs in the abdomen and just to fill them with air and leave the top part of the lungs? But if that’s the case why does he keep saying to first inhale the top third of the lungs. He wrote it in many places in the book. I don’t get it at all… If anyone helps me I would be extremely thankful.

Namaste.

When you inhale it goes through the top so noone could breath it in without going through the top. One should not inhale and be inflated as a baloon so just inhale till it feels full without moving chest. When exhaling contract/move abdomen inwards. Dont give to much attention to your stomach just be aware of it if you want to have a good experience, even if its not done perfect time and practice will make it better. There should never be a feeling that you want to take some extra breaths between whilst doing it then you have exceeded your capacity.
