Pre-Padmasana studies

Hello there

I want to master padmasana. But I can’t do it now. Have stiff left leg muscle.
Is there any prerequisite study you would recommend . May be some kind
of exercise which will slowly lead me towards the ideal posture of
padmasana. I want to master this to be able to sit for meditation for a
long time.

adios:smile:

If you want to master something you have to let go of the attachment to master it in order to move forward. Frankly there’s no mastery of asana. One is constantly growing the pose and growing within the pose.

To be able to do the pose safely and meet your intention (sitting for meditation) is enough. However meditation is equally available to the student in Padmasana and the student not in padmasana.

That having been said, we teach a hip series in Purna Yoga™ that works seven of the eight movements of the joint. This helps greatly with the mobility (and stability) required for Padmasana.

  1. Perform the variety of asanas.

  2. Work into full with half lotus by sitting in that for a time. Alternate legs. Also work cobblers pose. In football they refer to the stretch as butterfly.

thanks for the suggestions… padmasan is very important generally. it helps to sit
in that if one is going to practice meditation or pranayam for long time.
