I’m new to yoga about 5 months. My teacher is amazing and has put much time and energy into my practice and progression.
Today he applied pressure to my knee while I sat with one leg out and the other leg bent foot into groin. He put pressure in my back and bent knee and suddenly CRACK my knee sang. Everyone heard it. I was stunned and when I realized I wasent in pain I laughed a little. Then the other side, he said I’ll try not to break you and crack same thing. I’m in a little pain behind the knee caps just a few hours later. Any thoughts on this being good or bad? What it means? Tia!
Did he really put pressure on your kneecap and not on your thigh?
Im sorry no he put the pressure on my thigh.
I have this problem occasionally that it can crack. Sometimes when i sit for vajrasana it happens, then i feel my front side is stiffer than normal. I guess it was a little too much force and something was rubbed inside your knee and got irritated. Probably it will subside soon. So just be more careful with postures where your leg is bent further on and take extra precaution for some time.
But if it hurts lots or does not subside soon enough, you might wanna check it out.
The description and context are too vague to make any concrete statement(s) about the event/adjustment/action.
However if the teacher is soundly trained, observed something in the student, and approached from an energy other than the ego then it is probably fine. I personally wouldn’t have concern aroused merely by a popping sound in a joint. That is quite common.
What your mind does with the experience is likely more powerful than what was actually done physically.
Thanks inner athlete for your reply. It was a good reminder to how I felt after the adj. it was a giddy and happy release. And continued to be until my condition of very sore knees plaqued me from running and such. I’m allowing the body to heal but need to remind myself of the inner release that followed.
My teacher has been working very closely with me and knows my abilities. Im afraid he also is considered I’m progressing so fast in my journey and that I need to slow down.
Thanks for the good reminder.
You’re welcome.
