Question needs answer

hi everybody.

Any answer to this question?

Can Yoga make someone forget his past ?

Why has someone you know forgotten their past?

:o

Could you further expound on the question as it relates to “forget one’s past”?

Are you asking if yoga can help you deal with trauma from childhood or are you asking if yoga can cause amnesia?

Assuming you are asking if yoga practice can make you forget things that haunt you from your past… no. By helping to accept yourself, however, yoga can help you to make peace with bad memories, things you may have regretted doing, etc… but only partly. If you have something haunting you such as trauma, something you deeply regret, etc… you may need to seek professional counseling.

Yoga cannot make you do anything. But it can help you deal effectively with past memories. If the trauma experienced is debilitating, please seek a professional counselor. As an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and a specialist in trauma, my experience with victims/survivors of “really bad stuff” is that time can heal with a change in how the problem/situation is approached. But this is off the top of my head. Your friend deserves to be heard and helped. If money is an issue some clergy are effective, some counselors (good ones) volunteer do so “pro bono” work, some counselors have a sliding scale. Yoga promotes change from within… this takes time and dedication. Sometimes people who have been traumatized don’t have time, the memories become invasive, the individual has difficulty just living life everyday.
I hope this helps.
