Question on Ajna Chakra

When I am in meditation I keep my eyes crossed and upwards at arms length focusing on area of the Ajna Chakra. I find that a purplish light with a yellowish green outline appears (that’s the best way I can describe it) and it either repeatedly pulses into a bigger sphere or shrinks into a small ball of light.

Is this the Ajna Chakra opening? What about the expanding and shrinking, do they signify something different?

Hello…I am not sure…the trouble is the positioning of the eyes and focus direction is always a difficult description. The colour is also something difficult, Some people have said red light, others, blue? I read somewhere that there are two aims, one is the centre of between eyes perhaps half an inch above and then straight down to the tip of the nose end. …I go slightly cross-eyed, on my back, and this seems to fix it nicely, and, if I look at the possible angle, it is kind of in-line with the tip of the nose. Or if sat down, I am looking central and downwards, towards the tip of the nose, in the darkness ahead. These positions had names?? The nose is a guide. But, there may be other ways I am unfamiliar with. I know when I see the little light, it is kind of white/yellowy. it comes and goes because I lose focus on it. It’s increase in size is its attempt to open. Singular focus is my aim and single kind of thought, to look for it.
Has the light filled the space your looking into so that it is all light your looking at?

Why should chakra expereinces be similar ?

Having a normal eyesight, one sitting on the beach will see the ocean, another one sitting on the terrace of a mountain cabin will see snowy peaks. Why would it be different seeing into the higher worlds ? And what if two people sitting on the same bench wear sunglasses of different colours ?

PS. Do not expect others to tell you what you expereince.

There are specific sights that all people will see. Sharing what you see would be necessary if you were assigned a Master. The Master would indicate your progress in this area. yes ?
Or amongst fellow monks…which I think of us on the forum as
The tiniest piece of information can be of use sometimes.

I did not say there are not … only that sights are not exactly the same and when translated to the brain (in order to share verbaly, for example), they will be pretty much colored by subjective peculiarities. It was rather a thought provoking question than absolute statement.

OK, I finally found the paper I was looking for.
kareng, I followed your direction a little bit, and what I experienced reminded me of a philosophy lecture given by a cognitive scientist on the Willamette Unviersity campus several years ago. the guy’s name is Paul Churchland. Here’s a link to his paper:
http://web.gc.cuny.edu/cogsci/private/Churchland-chimeric-colors.pdf
Now, it’s 34 pages long and I certainly haven’t read the whole thing. Page 9 is the fun one. Choose one of the color spots on the left side. Stare at it while counting to 10 slowly. Then shift your gaze to the grey/tan box with an ‘x’ in it. Compare the color of the afterimage thereby generated to Paul’s prediction, which is the color spot on the far right.

Is this a similar visual experience for you?

Relax John,

Really. Relax your eyes and feel that they converge naturally as a result of your posture, alignment of your head and control of your breath. Don’t force them. When ajna becomes actively aligned, the eyes by themselves are forced slightly inward and upward, gently. So it’s not something we do, but rather something that happens: not a cause, but a result. What you want is not to restrain them, so they can be guided by this convergence of ha and tha.

peace & blessings,
siva

I’m aware of the fact that not everyone has similar experiences, my post was not in regards to the color, which of course will be experienced differently by different people. The intent of my post was to gain some insight on what could be happening, I’m sure that SOME other people experience something similar to this, no matter the color. I find that the only time that my eyes cross and focus like that is when it happens naturally, every time I try to put an effort forth, it stops. Thanks for the insight, I’ll try to be more clear about stating my questions.

kareng, it does fill the whole space, but in pulses, it doesn’t stay like that. When I pay special attention to it ( I said put an effort forth but that’s not really what I’m doing…), it goes away. I’ve just begun to study the chakras, I in no way have even an elementary knowledge of them haha. The focal points do have names, they’re called “dristis.”

Interesting John …Im terrible at paying attention to the names of things in meditation practices…this probably stems from practicing alone. Thank you
Dont worry about knowledge…I hadn’t a clue (and still don’t ha) and only heard one statement and followed it. Everything else I dealt with as I met it.

Some one told me that when they tried it they saw bright pulsating lights doing all sorts…and someone else suggested they were not looking in the right place? I couldn’t comment incase I was wrong. ?

Hello Techne
Interesting…took a bit of reading!!

My results were red left a light turquoise colour
the next was light yellow and the next light violet
Its very interesting the results!

My attention was drawn to the part that said brightness could be increased?

I have noticed that some people who work on stage can turn this light on/up at will. Usually as they get on stage, or in front of the camera. They may not realize what they are doing, only that is has a positive effect on themselves and others.

I perceive the light as a very bright intense white light emanating outwards in all directions.

If I forget how to activate it, I look towards the sun, not at it but to the left of it, with eyes slightly squinted. This reminds me of the intensity to maintain and sets it into play.

Kind Regards Kareng

Hello Hubert…Regarding your last two threads…

.It was this the P.S. Comment that I was responding to, in honesty.
Where you wrote…PS. Do not expect others to tell you what you experience.

Why?.

I was hoping that someone might be interested in something I know a little bit about, and perhaps offer similarities in experience or additions and perhaps I can offer a simple method for anyone interested.

Many of you write about things I know absolutely nothing about, I am not a Yoga expert, in the way that is expected.
My reason for joining was to offer a technique that is very easy. Easiness of application is something I think Western Buddhists, e.g. need…I have a very busy Western lifestyle of this century, so I try to be alert to short methods of practice. I wanted to share this.

My beliefs only come from personal experience. Born and raised in London, no Indian relatives here…I was a Christian in thinking…until my spiritual experiences revealed themselves as Hindu/Buddhist/Jain ??? I have an English blue eyed blonde Mother and a Northern India, Punjabi father, turban etc.I knew very little about Sikhism and nothing about the others.(Father and Mother didn’t put any pressure on us spiritually, ever.) I voluntarily joined Church from 6 to 12. But, my experiences at the age of 29, and since then, are Eastern…not what I would have expected in a million years!

So, I find that I have three possibilities I am left with to ponder about…to look at genetic issues, or reincarnation, or that the practice of using the third eye chakra is an Eastern practice that results in Eastern experiences.
One of them is responsible. Perhaps you have a possible theory Hubert?..

Ask me about other Chakras, I haven’t a clue. (I would have to look it up)
But I do consider I have practiced in a simplistic way, a form of Yoga for 39 years, that produces what is echoed in the Eastern practices mentioned.

My Kindest regards Hubert…Kareng

I had the vision you mentioned as a child…I think it is a great mediation tool. Is it chakra opening…?? Maybe… YOU should feel it. If you just seeing it it is just the vision, supervision I would say.
