Re-beginner?

Hello! I am new here and look forward to talking to and learning from you folks!
I am starting yoga again after a long hiatus. I am interested in Jivamukti and Iyengar yoga. I have taken some Iyengar classes and will soon be trying a Jivamukti class. I would appreciate hearing of your experiences in these styles. Thanks!

 hello, I’m totally new yoga beginner, and i’m going to take my first class of yoga tonight, i think we can discuss it from now on if you like :stuck_out_tongue:

im kinda begining again, as well.

I’m thinking about taking a yoga class. Just have to find some around here. Not at all sure what to look for.

Hi, I have taken both Jivamukti and Iyengar classes. I think Iyengar is a very good style to start with for a beginner because they give you a lot of attention on how to properly get in and out of the poses and they give you very detailed instructions about how the pose should feel. They also hold the poses a long time to give you a chance to work into them. Jivamukti is much more flowing and sort of spiritual and in the class I have attended, they do lots of mantras, which is nice.

Anyway, to the poster who asked what to look for, one thing is that all yoga teachers will have different styles. I would look for an introductory series of Iyengar as a good start. Then you can try other teachers and other styles and see what you really like. Yoga is like a big buffet of wonderful things to try!

I’m so out of shape. My weight is normal, but I can’t even touch my toes. Sitting with my legs straight in front of me I can only touch my ankles. How long does it take before you are stretched enough to at least grab your instep? I’m afraid I would look rediculous.
